My alliance is running a tournament with T1 Frigs, only T1 modules (meta 0-4) allowed, no faction ammo, no combat implants to make guns better/ships faster/etc. We can warp in at up to 75k from the "beacon" and the ring itself is a 75km radius.
What does Ships & Mods think is the best frigate setup to bring to such a fight? I've got all racial frigates to 4 and all t1 small guns to 4 or 5; I can also use missiles but I don't have their support skills up as much as I do gunnery support skills.

Rifter imo. Generally considered by alot to be the king of T1 frigates. Guns and a nos in the highs, mids to suit; even a tracking disruptor if you want to sacrifice some tackle, then repper, plate and gyro in the lows. Pew pew

My favorite 1v1 dogfighter is a 400mm plated Rifter, neut, scram, web, afterburner, DC II. Need Micro Aux.

That's a pretty big arena for a frigate fight. Why not start off a lot closer, say within 15km or so? Might hurry things along a little, otherwise you've generally got quite a lot of ground to cover before any pew can take place. By the way, I have heard that at Bumble's House of Fun (Jita Moon 4, Planet 4, most days) the action is RIGHT UP IN YOUR FACE and a fun time is generally had by all
Anyway, I would say that your best bet for frigate choice is firstly the Rifter, of course, but followed by the Punisher, Merlin and Tristan, assuming all who fly these know what they're doing! ---

That's a huge arena. If you're warping in from opposite directions, an SML Kestrel would be effective. Once, then they'll ban it for being boring and hokey.

If you know what your opponent will be flying before the match, it's hard to beat a racial ECM griffin. Fix Rockets in '08 '09 2010 2011 2012?! |

most boring choices are usually the griffin and kestrel. At least they die fast when someone brings something unexpected. Better make the rule "must be combat fit (has a point)" however then you will see rifters only.

If it's a FFA, best choice is an Inquisitor with missiles, MWD, cap booster, damage control, and a small rep.
Just avoid all of the fight till there are only a few people left. Nobody will be able to catch you, and if they do, just rep yourself (since they will do terrible dps if they are speed fit)

Laser Vigil.
I remember seeing a video where an experienced Rifter pilot gets totally owned by a laser vigil. He just couldn't get near enough to it to do anything, while the Vigil just plinked away in total safety. Unfortunately, I don't have a fit for it so some EFT Warrioring would be in order.

hi dethmourne. firstly, as you should be able to glean from the other answers in this thread, a kiter will almost certainly win. so you need a kiter and stay outside scram range, and ideally one that can perma-run the mwd so that you can focus entirely on maneuvering away from the target within the 75km radius sphere, maintaining transversal on any long range turret fire. i would use something like the following breacher setup:
3 standard missile launchers, 280 howitzer mwd, small shield extender micro auxiliary power core, damage control bay loading accelerator, core defence field extender, anti-kinetic screen reinforcer.
this should be cap stable if you have decent skills. the kinetic shield rig is to counter kestrels, which ought to be your most dangerous adversary.

Back when I had 3.5 million SP and had never had a solo frigate fight before, I won my old corp's 1v1 frigate contest in a Griffin. I beat all other entrants, including people who averaged over a hundred solo kills per month, people who killed Vagabonds in Ishkurs, and so on.
It sure as hell wasn't my piloting that won it, so it must have been the ship.
They banned Griffins from subsequent tournaments.

AC punisher with ab, dual rep, cap booster, and armor hardener to match opponents damage. there is no other t1 frig that can beat it in straight combat, however, you are still open to getting kited, very easily infact as you have only an afterburner. i actually fly amarr |
