Don't worry this won't be a whinethread because i knew the risk of it being a scam was very high.
So i was in jita and there was an isk doubler there, sent 10 mil got 20 back, sure seemed legit, sent 50 nada. So didn't get any isk back after that i was abit disgruntled first. However, i'm not upset or anything because i knew the risk as said.
I did make some observations from this scammer. First of they will have a comfortzone where they send isk, this is just enough for it to seem legit. It's around 10-20 million i am guessing. This is just to make it seem legit. So if someone get's 4 million back it's a comfort zone as i said.
The second observation is the fact that they will have either a friend or an alt that they double large armounts of isk for, most likely sending it back to themselves. Another observation is that they sporadicly send large sums to other people back, theese could be friends however, i am not certain of this fact since it's just a theory.
So, i'm making this post to warn others about this kind of scam and how it works. I lost about 100 million myself today to this scam but i don't fret. I hope this is any help for others to avoid this kind of scams.

way to take it like a man.
Just something to note, the people that are "getting sent large sums of isk" are just random people from local and they aren't really getting any money. Most people who actually read local insta-block those scammers and so they don't even see their name being mentioned.

First i sen 10 which got doubled. Then i sent 50. Then i felt like gambling abit knowing it was a possible scam to send 100. I got 40 back for some odd reason. So i got 50 back, lost 100.
But in the end, it's no big loss as i have a source of income i'm experimenting with now

This is an OOOOOOOLD scam that has been around since before I joined EvE. While it shames me to admit it, I too fell for this scam.
Do what I did; take the name of that person down, post it next to your computer, and wait for 6 months. By this time you should have some "Location agents" available to you (or know someone who has them) which you can use to track the person down and suicide gank them when they least expect it. Note: I was lucky, the guy was using one of his more "active" characters to scam and do other stuff... most of the time you will be dealing with alts that are disposed of or go dormant. _______________________

I am glad that some people actually man up and admit they messed up. I can't tell you how many times someone will come on the forums and whine and moan about how they got screwed or something and how they want things changed cause they screwed up.
So here's to you mate for actually taking the chance to learn from your mistakes. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Always ascertain the vintage of the first two.

I wonder how many people are reading this and saying "poor guy - at least he's admitting his mistake and not whining about it - I'll send him some ISK".
I'm not saying it is a scam, I'm hoping it's not, but if it is, it's another way to make some ISK. ______________________ Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University |

I felt sorry for him. sent him 10 mill and he sent me 20 mill back :p
Seriously could be another scam altogether. ie: Business is slow for jita scammer. So he comes onto forums and plants the seed in peoples heads that they work with a "comfort zone" to gain trust. People think ooh, next time i see Jita scammer I will send just 10 mill, then when I get 20 mill back quit while i am ahead.
Not saying this is the case here but you never know. If something seems free or too good to be true then...meh you know the rest.

Even if you see the people THEMSELVES report in local that they got large amounts of money back, don't assume they actually did. They might be friends/alts of the scammer. But, most likely, they'll be some bored veteran passing by who's seen the scam a thousand times, but decides to aid the scammer "to cause some tears by proxy." If you get the impression from this that most EVE players are cruel people who don't mind griefing new players for no apperant reason... Congratulations! You've learned something, and welcome to EVE!
EVE's a pretty darwinian game... if someone you don't know (like some random git in local) offers you something, anything, look for his angle... If he has nothing to gain by doing as he says, he probably won't. Learn to love it! for me, the fact that nothing prevents player A from taking advantage of the stupidity/mistakes of player B is one of the great things about this game.
Writing off the occasional loss of ISK or ships as the cost of learning, as you seem to be doing, is a pretty healthy way of looking at things. But,as was remarked earlier in this thread, if you REALLY don't appreciate getting played, don't get mad, get even! Some of you got me wrong, i'm not doing this to get sympathy nor is this an alt to scam you. I posted this to help others avoid getting scammed the same way as i did.
So to be clear, i posted this so other newbies aren't going to get scammed also so that they know what to look for.

You're posting as if offers to double your money may be scams, when in fact they are scams 100% of the time, no maybe about it. Your post also has a tone designed to inspire sympathy. A similar situation would be if you pick up a shotgun and shoot yourself with it, then write a post on the forums "I admit, I fell for it, and I got shot."
Followed by "Observations about the shotgun: if you only nudge the trigger a little, you may not get shot."

I'm saying they are scams and just giving the warning signs to look for. Sorry if the post came out that way but i tried to write it as whineless as possible. Had it been better if i wrote a waaah waaah waaah i got scammed thrad which lead to crying and wanting things to be changed?.
So if you want a clarification, theese things are 100% scam, the warning signs i posted are not to believed as they are just a way for the scammer to ensue that people think it is legit.
Happy now?

Don't worry i'm legit. I would never get the idea to scam someone as it goes against every fibre in me to trick someone. And i didn't really take it a bad way, i just thought i'd clarify my intentions of this post.
So don't fall for this scam even if you see the scammer send isk back , it's still a scam and nothing else.

and herein lies the solution to the "Double your ISK scam":
sent 10, got 20 back.
At this point you send 10 again.
If you get another 10 you are 20m up and you can send 20m, you lose nothing. If you lose the 10 the scammer just sent you lose nothing.
Of course the best way to avoid this by far is to not send any money in the first place. . sig says "We Are Recruiting!" |

Maybe I don't understand EVE very well yet, but how can you ever fall for this? How would someone be able to double all the ISK that you send them? And if he could, why would he? He could just double his own ISK and if he feels generous, just give it away without asking for ISK to double.
I can't even imagine falling for that.

The scammer usually declares that they are leaving EVE forever, and want to give away all their stuff, but rather than just hand it all to one person, they want to play a game and make the whole process more interesting.
