i have a question relating to using an active tank on a raven. i was wondering, when you use the shield booster, are you supposed to just keep it running, or do you activate it when your health starts to drop low and then shut it off? i know its a really stupid sounding question but im confused as to how to active tank in a raven because the cap only last for 1M 50S (ive never used an active tank; so used to passive drake). if anyone can help me out here id be much oblidged.

Shield recharge is pretty poor on a Raven, so I try to manage capacitor more. I keep my shield and capacitor over 25% (33% is considered ideal). I'll boost the shield if the capacitor is over 50%.
If I need to boost the shield and I don't have over 25% capacitor, I'll inject a cap charge which is good for at least 2 more shield boost cycles.
With a Cap Booster II and 800 charges (5 in the module + 15 in the cargohold), I can do a full mission no problem, often two or three depending on the missions.

When you start to take damage to your shield turn it on, when your not taking anymore damage, turn it off :)
However, most people toggle it on and off through a mission to conserve cap because by just simply turning it on to keep your shield at a solid 100% is a waste of cap. --------------------------------------------

Running the shield uses your capacitor. Running out of it on a ship with active modules is generally a bad idea, as those modules will no longer run. For this reason you don't waste your cap.

thanks for the replies so far. however, what if you are running the booster but it takes longer than the cap lasts to kill all of the enemies. do you just warp out or is there something else you do?

You will find that as you kill more enemies, you will have to boost less and less. Dead enemies don't do any damage.

Your problem might not be the shield booster but the fit in general. A raven is more than capable of finishing most missions if it's fit properly and you have enough support skills, or you are not managing aggro properly. Post your fit here and we'll see if it's good. Is there a specific mission that's giving you trouble, or just any lvl4's in general.

Don't run the shield booster until you hit around 30-40% shield (to let the passive recharge work a bit). You'll probably find that the booster out-boosts the incomming DPS, at which point you deactivate it once your shield is mostly back or your cap gets below ~30% (peak recharge). From there you just pulse the booster as needed and don't let your cap drop below 25%. - - - Dian'h Might - C&Ps resident "internet kleptomaniac" |

Prioritise your targets properly. A BS might do a lot of damage, but it also takes longer to kill. You can probably kill 4 or 5 cruisers in the same time for about the same DPS reduction, but as you kill each one, the DPS drops a little, then a little more and a little more. Look at your targets and see how you can reduce your incoming DPS the quickest.
Also only pulse your booster as you need it. Don't keep charging your shield up if it's going to hold at 70% anyway, just let the natural recharge work for a bit. If it starts dropping below about 40% or 45%, give it one burst and let it recover, then another burst. As you get more practice, you'll discover where your threshold is. If it drops below 30%, start recovering drones and aligning. Once you're a bit more experienced, you'll find you can wait to 25%. You'll find your own thresholds eventually, but err on the side of caution at first.

You Can Simply Warp Out wait a few mins and jump back in or dock up, un-dock and warp back in with 100 shield and cap and go for it again.
Just make sure you don't get warp Scrambled - Best to kill the frigates first to be on the safe side :) --------------------------------------------

If you are using cruise-missle Raven you can also "range-tank", fire at them at 60+km (fit an afterburner if needed to keep range) and the vast majority of them will not be able to do any damage to you at all.

My Raven fit that I started with and used until I bought a Navy Raven.
Use the right hardeners for the mission. I carry 2x of every type (3x invul + EM for omni damage missions) with me to the mission agent, so I can fit the correct ones.
