None of those games are actually competition for EVE though. The only MMOs in development that seem at all similar to EVE (or for that matter "good") are probably a long time from being released or vaporware. That means "18 months" means something a lot different to me than it would if other MMO developers actually made good games.

I wish I was so naive that I could believe that some bit of unreleased software is going to be so magnificent that it blows all the current stuff away in a fire-storm of awesomeness.
But I know that when they are released they will be much like the current stuff and their forums will be full of not so mature teenagers informing the devs that they are useless and can't code for peanuts. Then they will inform the world that some other unreleased game is awesome. And so they cycle continues.
