EVEOGANDA Presents the DEATH RACE 2010 Eve Event!
On Sunday, August 22nd, hundreds of Eve pilots will embark on a dangerous, highly competitive race from a low-sec launch system, through the murky gate-camped systems of zero space and emerge once more into Empire! It is a race to the death! Only the lucky, the criminal, or the insane will survive victorious.
DEATH RACE 2010 is open to ALL Eve pilots who wish to participate and pay the one-time entrance fee. Gangs, Corporations, even Alliances are free to enter, but the prizes and trophies will be awarded to winning individuals only.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
ò Entrance fee is 5 million isk per individual character. ò All entrants must be present and fleeted in the launch system to race. ò Be the first to jump into the finish system to win.
OFFICIAL RULES:
ò Entrance Fee is 5 million isk per individual character racing. ò Entrance Fees should be paid to in-game character DeathRace2010. Receipt of your entrance fee enters you as a racer. ò Shuttles and Ships capable of warping cloaked are not allowed and will not be fleeted. ò No Cynos, No Black Ops and obviously no Capitals. ò T3 Strategic Cruisers are not permitted. ò Use of local or regional Jump Bridge networks is not allowed. ò You must be in the Death Race Fleet to win. ò Pods cannot win the race, but you need not finish in the ship you started in. (As long as it conforms to the above.) ò Aggression IS permitted and encouraged after the first jump. Aggression in the starting system will result in you being kicked from the Death Race Fleet. ò Gangs, Teams and Corps are permitted to participate (But each racer pays the entrance fee). ò Fleet up will occur in a low-sec system to be announced on Race Day. ò The Death Race is Sunday, August 22nd and will start promptly at 18:00 Eve time.

Visit the official Death Race 2010 Blog for updated information, prizes, swag and more!
ALL proceeds will be used to provide cash and other prizes.
Special Thanks to EON Magazine and EvePress our official sponsors. If you are interested in being an official sponsor, providing prizes, or assisting in any other way, please contact Rixx Javix at [email protected].
MISC: Two days before the race a general call in the in-game channel and on the supporting blogs will indicate a North, South, East or West direction so that all racers have an opportunity to locate themselves within Empire. Two hours before race time, at 16:00, the starting system will be announced within the in-game channel. All racers will gather, be fleeted and told where to await the start of the race. Immediately before the race begins, the destination system will be linked in fleet chat. Race support will be monitoring the race along the race route (most likely in cloaked ships) to monitor adherence to the rules. Anyone that is caught cheating in a significant way will be kicked from fleet, only fleet members can win the race. Anyone that experiences a dropped connection during the race will be re-admitted to the fleet asap. We are actively asking for CCPs help in providing server load protection during the race. But we obviously cannot guarantee that lag will not be a factor. All determinations as to the winner and allocation of prizes is the sole discretion of Rixx Javix, event originator and producer. His word is final. EVEOGANDA |

Important question: is wormhole travel allowable? Retired from corp sales. Time to spend some of this on pretty explosions :) |

How will you know if people cheat? Say some one gets a few jumps in and gets in another ship? One that can jump while cloaked? Or even better how will you stop cyno use?

ò Observers in cloaked ships will be in various systems along the route. ò The routes have been run and timed, any significant variance on those times will indicate cheating. ò The Racers themselves will be happy to report any cheating.
There are other steps being taken. However, it must be stated that this event has been created mainly as something to do, to have fun and enjoy. And to win some prizes. While it might be possible to "cheat" the rules and gain some advantage, I have yet to hear of a single idea that would actually work in a practical sense. In my opinion, the best course of action would be to button down and race as fast as possible, avoid being killed by the other racers and residents, and win. Most of the suggested cheats take more time than they are worth, or involve an inordinate use of resources against a last-minute announced race route.
But that's just me. EVEOGANDA |

Are there low-sec systems that can only reach highsec by going through 0.0?

But that's just me.
There haven't been any known instances of cheating in any of the Deathraces run by Myself or the other racing leagues, and they employ similar rules to Rixx's. Posting a set phrase in each local to track racers is also easy to impliment and is also some free marketing. Checking these set local logs before prize giving takes litle time.
Not releasing the actual track also goes along way to keeping people "honest" although it lessens the chances of gatecamps (unless operator organised) aswell as forcing ship registration when purchasing your tickets, ie. You put the ship name that you'll be racing in the reason field when transfering your isk.

Oh - is there an actual track? As in, you have to go through the exact systems and gates prescribed? Cause that's way lame. The first post doesn't make this clear at all.

Probably, if you can find one that leads to the target system without bypassing the marshalls...
Otherwise, I'm in.

The route of the race, will it be restricted to low sec, to low and high sec, to low and null sec, to all three?
Basically, if there is null sec, then I don't care to enter. If it is low sec, I'm very tempted to enter in a Mastodon. I don't think I'd win, but I'm fairly confident I would survive. And it would be much fun.

I thought this was the point behind everyone being in the same fleet, so we can aggress without criminal tagging.

Being in the same fleet does not allow you to aggress, only being in the same corp allows this.
Flying through null isn't that scary, people do it all the time... infact I wish my commute to where I mission was camped more often

Is the starting system highsec or lowsec? If it's highsec, CONCORD is going to be spawning all over the starting line-- or am I the only flashy red entrant?
