Quote: According to pilots flying in the area, the severe disturbance rendered it impossible to coordinate fleets during the fight. As a result, the fight between ATLAS, Against All Authorities and their allies battling against White Noise, Red Alliance, XiX and Pandemic Legion, was interrupted.

My alt is a bomber pilot in an atlas renter corp.
I was at that fight, after 30 minutes of commands taking 5 minutes or more to respond, i lagged my way to a stargate and jumped out.

CCP actually thinks it's ok to pull this garbage?
Leave lag unfixed after 9 months, then literally dangle it in 900 people's faces after they couldn't do anything?

Edited by: Skydell on 27/07/2010 05:21:27 It has been like this for 5 years, I assume 7 but I have only been here 5.
Just to various degrees.
If I was the only guy in EvE to fit small hybrid blasters on a Raven people would laugh at me, call me an idiot. Yet EvE and the bull headed lumps at CCP refuse to shard thier playerbase and everyone applauds it as unique. The fact that 10,000 other MMOs do it, not to degrade MMO experience but because every piece of code wrote, every piece of hardware made says we cant have 2000 people connecting to the same node at the same time. It could also be pointed out they could have 5 EvEs and every one of them would be busy with 20K online 23/7. They would break a million subs, I am sure of it.
That said? Nothing will change because we hang on to the fragile illusion that We and CCP can somehow defy the rules and make it work. I will get back to you when I get a killmail with my small blaster fit Raven. |

That was insightfull and intelligent. You proved me wrong at every turn. Your argument was... 4 year old like, I know you are but what am I?
Its OK though. Trolls who fear change seldom have the intelect to actually debate. Thats why they troll. Read the last paragraph. No fears, troll. I dont see it happening any time soon. Crawl back under the bridge now. |

I rather like EvE. I wont call it a 'turd sandwich'. The limits are in the real world, not in game concept or goals. EvE works well when it has around 25,000 people spread over all its systems. |

So, even the Interstellar Correspondants troll us.
There is nothing to joke about when a fleet fight like this becomes unplayable because of server performance issues.
Fleet fights should be the highest form of fights in EVE...
If only CCP understood that the Dominion sov conquest mechanics are just wrong, and face the reality that we need a mechanic that forces the two opponents to split their forces over a number of solarsystems at once...
Now it's 8 months since Dominion... and it seems that things have probably only got worse (we need a precise report on this). That's sad.

They are not trolling us. They are Ingame Correspondents, that means they are forced to role play. When they say "spatial distortion" they really mean lag.
I agree that lag issues need to be addressed btw.

Uh maybe I misinterpreted it, and the ICs are just trying to help us putting pressure on CCP about lag.
I will never be tired of writing that we need not only technical improvements, but a different gameplay mechanic for sov battles (here is my last and simplest proposal).

I do not know if they try to help us or not. As much as I know they are volunteers and they report on stuff that we do in game and they seem to be roleplay oriented.
I believe these guys are a good way to communicate our ingame stuff to others, devs included.... don't you think that they might actually communicate to devs what happened during a battle (besides writing an article?)

^this.
If CCP doesn't commit do actually fixing fleet lag/gridload/weapon lockup ASAP then they'll be losing me as a customer.
I really love this game but it's not playable atm and is just one huge big frustration. You spend weeks organizing, getting logistics in order and all the other boring crap we have to do to get ready for battles like this, then you wait around for hours until everything is setup but basically you could just as well have jumped in a few hundred shuttles. It's totally irrelevant since in the end it's only a question of when the server fails.
Fights are no longer fought, everyone just logs in all their alts into the target system right after DT and thus pretty much prevents any sort of meaningful resistance. Don't get me wrong: I'm not blaming RA for doing this (we'd do the same in their shoes) I'm blaming CCP for making this ****ing game so broken that this is the most viable way to take Sov.
YOU SUCK CCP!

Im just wondering why CCP wasted time designing Titans etc if they can't even fight in fleet battles, and I feel sorry for the players who've trained months to fly one
When I was a new player my ambition was to fly a Titan, what a waste that seems now

The problem here is the actual architecture of EVE's server cluster. The systems are grouped together in "nodes", which have static resources associated with them. When a system gets too much load, there is no way to dynamically add more resources to the node.
In a modern infrastructure, resources are assigned dynamically -- if CCP designed this system today, I'd expect it to be designed entirely differently. RolePlayGateway || EVE UserVoice: A Supplement to the CSM |
