I am recently new to the game and am really loving it. The only real problem is all my new friends have many more skill points then I do and because of this I can't do things they are doing, like flying ships which can survive Lvl 5 missions or fly Capitals or Super-caps.
So while they have 50m+ skill points, even with buying sets of +5 through plex I still can barely crack 2k sp/hr. At this rate it will be another 18 months before I can competently fly a capital with sufficient supporting skills.
Has CCP though of this before? Has it ever been raised? There may be an argument that it would unbalance the game, but I don't agree. There are many chars well over 130m SP. I am only talking about buying 5 or maybe 10m sp, to get me in the position I will be in after a year of training.
It could be restricted, in that it either gets more expense to buy SP after a certain threshold, or you can't apply those SP at all after a certain threshold.
What do the pros out there who have been playing for a while think?

- Buy GTC.
- Sell GTC for ISK.
- Buy a capital capable Character from the Character Bazaar.
- Fly a capital badly and die in a fire.
- More stuff happens (tears mostly)
- No profit.

Quoted for truth..
Skill points don't mean anything without the experiance to back it up, and your not going to gain that by taking shortcuts. Going to take a wild guess here and say that you probably couldent come up with a half decent capital setup without looking at battleclinic anyways. not insulting your iteligence here, just saying you should start small and learn as many of your hard leasons as possible in somthing cheap. you would spend a bunch of RL cash on a cap character with a lot sp and a bunch of isk only to take your shiny new carrier out to die day one because you have no experiance as it only takes one person to see you in it and everyone they know will be trying to. Seee how quickly they can plan your demise.
Or if you don't believe me do what mag said and we will watch your name on the killborads for a good laugh

Edited by: Nika Dekaia on 27/07/2010 13:17:05 As Tub Chil said, this is not a new topic. Have a look around in these threads to get to know some arguments fielded by both sides: LinkageLinkageLinkageLinkageLinkage
Personally, I think the option of buying a character via the forum is a balanced one. It allows RL or IG rich players to advance faster, but it has the drawback that you can not change the name, you buy the char's history, and you may have SP in some places you don't really want them.
And you should be aware that you can be very usefull in any fleet / gang even with low SP. Every capital fleet needs BS support which needs anti-support-support (BCs/HACS etc), every gang needs a tackler. I've been playing this game for about 4 years and I finished my dreadnought training just some 2 weeks ago. And believe me, I have been in many fights, many fleets and gangs and I had a ton of fun.
I heard sitting in a dread and shooting POSes /TCUs is not much fun.

And you are complaining because you cant fly caps?

I am sure they have... probably when designing the game and skill system.
I imagine it went something like this....
CCP_Thinktank: "Shall we implement a fair and balanced system that progresses our players through the game over time or given them all the skills at the start and give them everything right there so they get bored and cancel their accounts after a few months?"
I guess they went for the first option, sorry that didnt work out for you.

Are you in null sec or low sec first of all op? When trolling pick one story...makes your story more believeable when its actually consistent. When you have null sec systems with built up indices...you don't need to run lv 5's anymore. Secondly to keep the indice up you have to have people rat daily....not seeing your ceo/directors happy with you being in low sec not keeping up indices and not being around for surprise pvp chances. Post this again next week and pick 1 side and build a story around that please.

Of course, this would be a much more effective argument if CCP has not already said that learning skills were a mistake and they wished they had not done them. IDK what other skill decisions they made and now regret.

I am in null. I have been for a few weeks now. My corpies do plex and lvl 5s when they are not on CTA or HD.
Yes I agree to the sp v experience stuff. I was only going to use it for fleet ops, not fly around solo. Soloing a cap will get me killed because cap KM attract players like flies to faeces.
Thanks for the flames too. It was a cold morning and was good to get warmed up

They are not flaming. They are simply elaborating on the fact that this proposal (Or others very close to it) gets posted on this forum on weekly basis, sometimes even more frequently than that (what with the skill point reimbursement given out recently), and, AFAIK, gets always shot down by people who have played this game for a long time and see no need for it to become a clone of those """Free to play""" (triple double quotes are necessary given the hypocrisy of such a name) korean mmogs where money == success in game.
That said, it's also possible to "buy sp" already, with completely legal means, like it was highlighted by one of the first guys.
