So the ipad has been on sale for a few months now.
Has anyone found an actual use for it other than marking yourself out for ridicule on public transport by reading a book on it, or is it just a useless gimmick placed on the market to relieve the terminally vain "I must have new gadget first" morons of their cash? "Yes, mom it may be useless and overpriced, but damn it looks nice and I got mine FIRST!"
Not sure what I think about them yet.

Hi.
I am here to tell you what to think. If you are the type of person who waits for people to tell you what to think the iPad is right down your alley.
technically speaking (when you take it apart kind of technical) the iPad is literally a Touch with a bigger screen. this is amazing if you liked the touch. bigger area, better resolution, good use of multitouch, tons of apps and games, etc.
Practically it does everything a laptop does but costs a little more. you can grab a mini laptop and read book, game, internets, etc. the ipad is solid, has good hardware and software and otherwise quite convenient, but the only thing it really does is replace a laptop when you feel like you want or need one.
that being said, i would go for a laptop and ipod/iphone over the bulky device that is only good when you have a use for it.

Personally I don't see the point in them..
They run the same OS as the iPhone and iPod touch.
So pretty much anything I'd want to do with one can be done with my phone (and I don't need to be near a WiFi hotspot with my phone!).
My first thought on seeing them was "it looks like an iPod touch for people with glaucoma"

Imagine Planetary Interaction developed and marketed for a mobility platform in a proper commercial format tuned to a well researched established market or market niche - low key low investment and low maintenance if embedded in best practices business development (ahead of the curve, not several years after the market peak or when the flux stabilises), or further mini games developed by CCP for such markets fully within the IP, or even a CCP license format for Third Party Developers like the thousands EVE has for people to build upon that, or even just an API framework for building on the amazing synergy potential demonstrated by EVE players over the years in pushing EVE further and further by means of - as example - expanding EoH Poker with betting support on tournaments, and so forth.

It looks like there was a bit more material that went in, than came out. It did fold nicely however.
