Why not allow a system where you can de-orbit asteroids or other celestials to drop on unsuspecting planeteers?
Or add a "nuke it from orbit (because it is the only way to be sure)" skill?

This is quite possibly one of the funniest paragraphs I've ever read on the forums. I'd tip my hat to you if it weren't covered in pod goo.

Planetary Interaction sucks because its all P and no I
There is no interaction between you and the planet (and its population/workforce) or between you and other players.
No random events, no responses to certain choices, no seasonal patterns, weather, growth or decline, no conflicts, nothing....
I have no idea why PI as it is now is even in EVE. ____

I'm also massively disappointed with PI - it's not like I didn't expect CCP would fail and their propaganda video would promise things that don't exist (they do that all the time with videos of large fleet battles) but the entire "be a tyrant or a benefactor" thing is an even bigger joke then usual. PI doesn't offer anything in that direction. Basically it's just a bunch of badly designed building icons that you connect with ghey little lines. The fact that we are supposedly ruling over a planet with a population doesn't even enter into it.
If this is your idea of "excellence" then maybe a change of jobs might be in order (I heard STO is recruiting people to clean the restrooms).

Edited by: Istvaan Shogaatsu on 29/07/2010 18:20:34 Yelling at CCP won't do much. Suggest awesome stuff, and maybe it'll make it in. I personally created an evil AI that made it into the storyline, and take full personal credit for the Zealot's 5th turret, so I know it can happen
The peasant who made a wisecrack about the Sims while trying to sound hardcore, brought up a valuable point somewhere amidst his alt-posted gum flapping: people goddamn LOVED the Sims by the millions. Imagine if PI allowed you to *get to know* your planetary populace, to a degree. If you're a benevolent leader, your planet might have a NPC senate to contend with. If you're a tyrant, instead you oversee a handful of regional warlords or slave-drivers, which you can pit against one another in provincial warfare to determine which is best.
I'm actually thinking of another game where cruelty to tiny ant-like fleshbags made for wonderful entertainment: Black & White. Most people played it as a benevolent god, petting their avatar, and taking good care of their villagers. Now, when I started playing Black & White, I immediately set to beating my avatar animal until it was reduced to a bruised, terrified wreck, prone to crying, eating rocks and its own droppings, as well as random outbursts of maniacal rage directed against my puny defenceless villagers.
Now imagine a planetary governor in place of B&W's avatar-beast-thing. Traumatize him enough, and make him feel powerless enough, then watch as he turns his impotent rage against those under him.

My wife loved the Sims because she could throw a pool party and remove the ladder, causing everyone to drown. She's a very sick and twisted individual and that's why I love her. PI definitely needs something similar.

Cripes, I never knew anyone who was benevolent at that game.
I was going to mistreat my avatar, but after i had taught him to throw boulders at peasants houses, randomly pitch peons off the cliff and out to sea, and he had taken to crapping in the center of the nursery, I just couldn't be mad at the little guy.
But oh god, If PI had even a tiny bit of this brilliance, it would be a thousandfold what it is now. ------------------------------- Non Moritur Cuius Fama Vivat He Dies Not Whose Fame Survives |

Are you a newer player? You obviously don't know who Istvaan is. I'll be surprised if you are still alive after making that comment.
