Hey, be nice, this is serious business with serious investors.
He is just keeping his promise to all his anonymous investors

Because all the people here who have 50 alts and corpmates post are on the up and up. To be faking with all that would just be too difficult, so the number of people who post in response is what determines someone's legitimacy.
You're funny, Estel.
It doesn't matter to me if they post or not-- as I said (at least as I think I said) I met and exceeded my target very quickly. I don't think I'll be doing a second round however. I'll just work it with my own money and not have to worry about sharing profits.

There's the problem, exceeded by how much? No one really knows how much was invested exactly by others. With anonymous investors it's not just the question of whether or not they actually exist, but how many exist. Maybe you've convinced 20 people that there are 4 others each investing 2B. Everyone thinks you're sitting on 10B invested isk, but you're actually sitting on 40B. That can be prevented by having all investors post how much they invested exactly.

I see what you mean. But even that wouldn't help unless the only source of funds was M&D forum readers.
As I said, I very much doubt I'll do this again because it's just not worth the small rake percentage. And everyone thinks "Oh no he is here to steal our 500M."
Why do they think that? Because there's almost no mechanism in the game or meta-game that discourages it. Even in the real world (insofar as Wall Street is the real world) ponzi schemes are all over the place and happen every day. I've seen them happen first hand and in one case I was almost screaming at people trying to warn them but they didn't listen.
At any rate I'll most likely just worry about my own investments in future and others can handle their own.

Actually, there are plenty of meta-game mechanisms to discourage it. You just chose not to engage with them in any meaningful way.

Quote: there are plenty of meta-game mechanisms to discourage it.
This might or might not be true were it not for character sales.
Ultimately, someone who runs a huge scam can burn his main, walk away with 20 or 40B or whatever, and effectively respec into whatever new sleeve he wants, no harm no foul, leaving the purchaser holding the bag of negative reputation. Which probably won't mean boo one way or another.
I do see your point that at least it's something but it's just not worth bothering with one way or another, for me. Once again, most of the mechanisms favor scammers and are overwhelmingly weighted against investors looking for something legitimate. For a legit fund manager the payoff is simply not worth it.
But scammers? They'll jump through whatever hoops are required because for them the payoff is tens or hundreds of times larger than just a simple rake.

I meant things like public scrutiny and audits. These do a pretty good job of weeding out many potential scams just because they increase the workload involved for a scammer. Let's pretend (?) that this was a scam offering, for example. Potential investors have no way of knowing if you actually have any trading experience, or even the skills necessary to trade effectively. In order to get through an audit a scammer would have to actually trade and train and possibly create a viable business plan. This makes the return for time and effort spent much lower for a scammer than it would otherwise be, thus deterring many of them.

Just a general word to the wise.
1) Do not give a Rorqual away to someone you just met half an hour ago.
2) After not getting said Rorqual back, do not give vast sums of ISK on the basis of a five minute conversation to someone you've talked to for maybe an hour total, have never, ever run ops with and know nothing whatsoever about. Especially when your alt Farlimas is a character of exceedingly suspicious provenance and your behavior in corp exceedingly strange (Joining corp then right away claiming you are on vacation then coming in and out of corp chat saying nothing, saying strange things to corpies, supposedly asking for roles after a week in corp. Or was that one of your 73 alts who did that?)
Ever heard of something called due diligence? Comparatively small investments are one thing. But this? Wow. *Twilight Zone theme*
Drugs are bad, mmmkay? All in all, ಠ_ಠ

oh and just for the record...
Yes Farlimas is mine. I bought it here on the forum... I'm sure people would be able to find the post IF THEY'D CARE... I learned BY YOU BTW that Farlimas was a scammer before... I guess you people get together on week-ends and talk about how you're so cool because you stole space money from noobs... good job !

Edited by: Jion Tichy on 15/08/2010 04:04:05 Isn't Farlimas the guy who sits in Jita all day spewing lottery scams? Or am I thinking of somebody else? At any rate very funny, this thread started out and has now become
edit: "let's believe what that guy says !" That's what they all say. Everything about this is fishy. Farlimas is a known scammer who was apparently sold by his main because he had become too hot.
How does a nooblet come up with that kind of isk anyway, as if I have to ask?

I don't know about Farlimas... only what Janya told me... that he knew that guy named McDoubleCheezeNut or something and that he was a "scammer".
It's funny... after he stole my ISK he blocked me like a little girl not wanting to face was he had done and now that I have posted here, he keeps sending me mails with stories he invent in his mind to make him believe he's the good guy in all this... I guess he's having a hard time living with himself.
I am finding this very amusing indeed... let's keep it up !
And... I'm sorry you stole my money ?! What kind of request is that... That must be a very beautiful world in your head where you are the king and everybody loves you... it's a change from your normal life isn't it ?

Edited by: Janya Rykayn on 15/08/2010 04:15:20 I had to block you because of your vulgar, enraged tirades. If you behave that way you can't expect to get anywhere.
Also, the threats aren't helping either, and frankly I think they show your level of maturity. Good luck with all that, and with finding another corp with your legion of scamming alts.
Or maybe you could just sell them off again and start fresh.

Intelligence? Oh, the irony. When you try to infiltrate known scamming alts into a corp you had better know what you're doing.
You have nobody to blame but yourself. Bought characters, piles of bought isk, and without the sense God gave a kumquat.
But not lacking in greed.
