Hiya guys! Just set up on some juicy planets in a 0.3 system. With my Transport ship's cargo bay <5Km3, I'll need to do a lot of commodities transfers to and from the various Customs Offices. Trouble is, you can't conduct those transactions if cloaked.
Does anyone have a suggested protocol for conducting such transfers that maximizes safety, and minimizes possible gankage? What is the probability of someone hanging out at any given customs office just to gank some noob in a Transport full of robotics or some other sweet commodities ?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer !!!

I normally jump into a system, warp to the customs office, while in warp I open the planet and launch the stuff out, then land at the customs office and switch from cargo-hold to customs offics and vice-versa, then warp to the next planet/gate and do my importing while in-warp. It leaves the least time sitting static anywhere.
If your low-sec area is quiet, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Also, don't get into a "routine". If you log on every day at 21:00 UTC and run from the same systems to the same systems day-in and day-out, someone will figure it out and be waiting for you.

Create bookmarks 150-200 km away from customs, warp to bm cloaked, hold on, check your surroundings AND directional scanner, warp to the custom and pick up/load the goodies.

I did many runs in low sec. Gates and undocking at a kickout station are far more dangerous. I've never gotten jumped at a custom's office.

This will change as people realize they can look for customs offices and gank you at them. I know a few people who do this already, when the larger group of pirates/NBSI pilots discover this it will be less safe.
Cloaked alt at range off a popular (plasma?) planet, watching. Combat pilot in station (or one system out). If you are in a transport ship (Viator or something) you have the best chance. Alt uncloaks, points you. Main warps in, targets and destroys you. Done and done. It may not happen much yet, but it will.
Wouldn't be surprised if roams start checking for customs stations w/ships on dscan...

If you really wana be safe, the only way to it is this:
Find a patch of low sec, preferably .1 which is deep in the bowels of a low-sec area. Someplace like Genesis, Khanid or Aridia. Then only go to your customs offices when there's no one else in the system. You're never going to be safe if you try to do it in the same system where there's always people. +++ "Etiquette is for the Dojo. In war there is only victory or death." - Eiji Yoshikawa |

To be perfectly honest, I can't imagine in a million years that you'll find a group of pirates with such an epic level of OCD.
I'm sure plenty of people will get probed down at customs offices, but no one is going to sit on a customs office hoping that the handful of people at that planet happen to visit that day.

You are in and out in seconds, so there won't be any probing down.
But yeah, a busy planet may get visited 3-4 times a day on average, and can be managed well with an inductrial. So, you're going to sit there for an average of 6+ hours to gank one industrial. Orca or other billion ISK ship, maybe.... but a sub-milllion ISK industrial?

Did you know that you can run multiple versions of the EVE client at the same time? On one (or more) PCs at the same time? How do you think neutral remote repping alts do their job? It's not hard to have an afk/idle alt sitting in a covops in a system near a valuable resource planet while doing something else with your main in another window...
And no, this isn't necessarily going to be widespread, but if you look at PI and the "most valued" planets it works like Tech moons in the past - the most rare planets with high production abilities will be targets for industrialists, and more industrialists in LoSec make targets, until they are all flying Blockade Runners...

When in a system I fly directly to a safe spot (either one of your making or to some moon). Since I fly a blockade runner I'm already cloaked, but if you're not, get to the spot then cloak.
Use directional scanner to check your surroundings. (I use a 2m km radius) You'll probably have a planet or a couple of moons and likely the whole list of someone's POS setup. If you feel no one is in the immediate area, uncloak, and do your exporting from planet to customs office.
I fly to within 0 km cloaked to the office, then when I'm stopped, the proximity to the office uncloaks me and I do the switching of stuff as quickly as possible. As another player said, you can also do the export/import while warping and uncloaked.
I've done this with up to 8 people in the system and never had any problems.
A blockade runner has an advantage of not being able to be warp scrammed by a lone ship, and moving from gate to gate cloaked makes evading gate-campers simple.
Moving an uncloaked industrial around in lo-sec is a gamble, if you do, better to have a nano fit for agility and speed as opposed to all those cargohold expanders that make you turn as slow as a turtle.
Be careful, be quick, and have all your commodities moved to the right place before warping to the customs office.

Ummm, a Blockade Runner can fit and use a cov ops cloak. A Deep Space Transport has the +2 WCS built in, but can't use a cov ops cloak.
You either get to warp while cloaked or +2 WCS. Unless of course you fit WCS on a BR.

Enter system warp to safe spot, cloak as soon as you begin moving fromt he gate. While in warp, decloak Open Customs office from Science menu, import/export goods you need to transfer. you should be done by the time you hit your safe spot Cloak, warp to 10km off customs office. D-Scan Approach Customs office and get into the 2000m-2500m sweet spot. D-Scan some more to be sure. decloak grab goods/dump goods Cloak fly back to safe spot While in warp, decloak and do the rest of your import/export cloak as soon as you're done Warp from safe spot to gate. ?????????? Edited by: Mazzarins Demise on 03/08/2010 01:37:18 Have multiple planets out in a very populated region of null-sec territory. Have never been ganked or seen a single soul camping ANY of the customs offices. This also includes offices in systems that are being blockaded by dozens of ships.
The risk is negligible at best. People are going to funnel at the heavier trafficked parts of the systems...the gates. Why camp a customs office, hoping for that one person flying in, when you can just camp the stargate for WAY juicer targets? _________________________________________ Support the "Seed Primae on the market and ORE LP Stores" proposal! I use the cheapist industrial possible with no fittings, warp in get your stuff and warp back out again quick, If someone's willing to wait outside a random custom office for hours to gank me he's welcome to the killmail.

no need to probe when you can dscan, a hauler, in low sec near a planet does tend to mean warp to the customs station.
we had a tackle recon sit on a customs station in a wormhole waiting for the hauler to appear and grabbed him. we'd watched him carefully do the inner planets and waited. started a ransom in local with only the tackler decloaked. spawned a rather nice 2bil faction/deadspace tengu. much better than the PI rubbish he was carrying.
patience is important to a pirate.

Edited by: Arajus on 04/08/2010 12:29:40 Edited by: Arajus on 04/08/2010 12:28:39 I think nobody is that bored to wait at a Custom office for someone to pass by.
-First, you are finished in seconds > so even if you wait there you have to look at the screen and be ready for action every second. Otherwise you might have waited for hours for nothing. I pass by my lowsec planets every 2nd day max, so dont expect more than max. 5 visits per day!
- Second, even if you are able to kill the one coming, what do you expect to get out from it? Kill a sub-million industrial? If I would be attacked, I just relocate all my goods to the Customs office, so no cargo, nothing to gain. So its absolutely worthless and I doubt any pirate gang will ever do it, because they want to make profit.

I think you very strongly unerestimate how much we like killmails, and how dreary life in low sec can get. We will gladly blow up a sub-million isk hauler, just for the sake of doing something.

Obviously a pirate will blow up any hauler he sees. It's not the worth of the *hauler* that he's interested in.
The point being made is that sitting on a customs office is a terrific waste of time. Why sit on the customs office, where you will see very few people and those that you do attack can just put their goods in the customs office if they get attacked and you get nothing, when you could be camping the gate and killing everyone who comes in, not just whichever PI person happens to be doing his once per 2 day planet run?
I've been having a fake 'bait' hauler sitting at a customs office and so far no one has shown the slightest bit of interest.
