I have often wondered why my Linux machine feels faster than my Windows machine, and this is probably why. The file system is faster in Linux:
Linkage
Since disk performance is important for how fast a computer "feels", this is probably the main reason people think Linux is faster.

Some interesting stuff there, I do think it's slightly biased in favor of Linux though (choosing RSA-bit 4096 which Ubuntu was recently optimized for etc). The review (with Mac aswell) using Warsow is impressive though, Ubuntu 10 really has caught up!

Ah I didnt know it was recently optimized for it. Thanks for the information. I agree there could be bias. :)

Windows software in Over-Engineered Bloatware Shocker!
It's still the only operating system I can play all my games in, so I'm sticking with it. ____________________

Glad you enjoyed it.
To others: I understand why Sharpbait feels the way he does, because Ive posted about many non-mainstream things such as our alien ancestry, 9/11, American invasions and other things a lot of people find provocative. I have many interests. Computer technology is one of the more mainstream ones and probably the easiest one to like for most. :)

I run Arch linux and while its great for us with experience, I think Ubuntu is the best choice for a beginner because of the massive amount of help out there for it. But yes, I love the way Arch linux handles startup daemons, the way its packaging system works and the fact that the forums are filled with expert users so you can learn from them. :)
I should also say that getting Eve to work under Arch was no work at all. It just worked. Under Ubuntu, some magic needed to be applied. So one should not make the assumption that everything will work better on Ubuntu. Its just easier to get started with. :)
