If you invent a JF, is the base success chance higher then items that take less time to copy? with max skills and a max prob decrypter what kinda chance is there? Building a stronger Caldari State one ship at a time. (Combat recons not included, some restrictions may apply) |

Inventing Jump Freighters has a base of 30% success. Using the best possible % success decryptor and max skills you can push this up to 68%. Now, that is not to say this is the best route to go necessarily. There is a big big difference between the production cost using a ME -1 vs a ME -6 blueprint for example. You'll have to crunch your own numbers on that.
This being said, jumping right into freighter inventing may not be optimal way to learn the ropes for inventing. Unlike most invention products, a single producer of JF bpcs could EASILY saturate the contract market for the item. I strongly recommend lining up buyers for the bpcs before ramping up production. If you are just making a single JF for your personal (or corp or alliance, whatever) use, consider biting the bullet and just paying the extra cash for a sure thing. You need to run something along the lines of 15-20 JF jobs before you are 90% likely to come out in the black.
Oh, and this is a tremendously useful link (if a bit dated) Invention Chance Calculator

Edited by: Lore Varan on 03/08/2010 20:34:24 Try my Invention Spreedsheet out , it can answer questions like these.
iirc the only profitable way to invent JFs is to use the best me dycryptor.
If you use a best chance decryptor the build cost of the resulting BPC ( should you succeed ) would be so high that no one would be able to build a JF from it for less than the market value of the JF.
Attempting to build from such a bpc would cost the manufacturer 100's of millions of isk more than he could sell it for.
Therefore the Invented BPC would be worth preciselly 0 isk.

That is not true. People building JFs are interested in biggest profit over time, and in this case the decryptor with the second best ME owns all others, since you get twice as much runs out of it and due to the best PE the production time is over a week shorter (28 days vs 16 or 21d vs 14d, cant remember correctly). So that would be another option.

Question,
Can you copy or research a JF BPC? If you can, why not just invent one max run BPC, research it up and make copies?
Thanks, zen

Most likely, because it is exactly that. A COPY.

For starters: Blue Print Copies are DRM-protected, self-destroying shadows of their respective BPOs shiny glory. They can only be used to manufacture stuff a very limited number of times or be consumed in invention (and not even that for T2 copies). Compared to their respective BPOs, they are usually cheap crap that you can decorate your walls with.

So, the ME, PE and copying tabs on the show info. only applies to the BPO version of the blueprint?
With skill requirements as high as they are for copying, ME and PE research in the show info, I assumed that T2 BPC's could be researched.
Meh, been building T2 forever; however, I'm starting my journey into T2 BP research for the first time.

All blueprints of a particular product are simply different instances of the same base 'item' in the database. That is to say, an Ishtar BPC is just an instance of an Ishtar Blueprint with the 'copy' data slot marked with a 1 instead of a 0. What this means in a practical sense is that BPC's carry with them a large amount of data that is simply not relevant to its use in any way.
Some blueprint facts: Blueprint copies can NEVER be researched for ME or PE and can never be copied themselves.
Blueprint copies have exactly 2 purposes: Manufacturing and Invention.
Nearly all tech II manufacturing is done from BPCs that have been created through invention.
Yes, there do exist BPO's for most (but not all) tech II items. These are bpo's in every sense of the phrase and can be researched and copied just like any bpo can be. Even the worst of these BPO's are worth hundreds of millions (usually billions) of ISK and the ONLY way to obtain one is by purchasing one from another player. The best of BPOs are worth many 10s of billions of ISK. The manufacturing time required to turn enough profit to pay for the cost of these BPO's is measured in years. If you are not one of the lucky few that have them, just don't worry about them.
