AFK mission drone boat, how??
TLDR how dose an AFK drone boat deal with drone agro and new wave trigers
I see reference to drone boats being able to do missions while the player is AFK some or all of the time and I am wondering how this system solves the problem of drone agro.
In my raven I make signifigent use of drones to destroy frigates and to add some DPS to other targets, but in at least half the missions I run there are points where new enemies enter the battle (ether reinforcements or a group I didnĘt agro to start to limit incoming DPS) and the drones must be recalled promptly wile agro settles on my ship or they will be destroyed. If I was making a snack at that point my drones would be destroyed.
Also there are a handful of missions where if you attack the wrong ship early reinforcement waves appear early and your facing much increased incoming DPS, I lost a ship to this before I learned to set my drones to passive for those missions.
it seems to me that only about 30% of missions could be completed by simply releasing a swarm of extra high damage drones. But people clame they do this.
What am I missing

some missions you do completely afk others you have to check in. For example Pirate Invasion can be done fully afk. Each room of Vengeance but not the whole mission. Each room of recon 1. Those are angel missions I can think of off the top, Other factions have other missions.
For the most part, you cant make a "fully afk missioner", except for a few good missions.

I do this in a dual LAR Domi. You pull the room and turn the drones loose and come back in 20 min. If there are triggers, like each room of Gurista Extravaganza, you kill all the driggers while controlling the agro. Then you turn them loose fo finish the room. Sentries are better if you are at the keyboard most of the time. Heavies are best of you are rarely there. They can kill frigs.

Well a domi naturally, but I only have one LAR, but with mission specific hardeners and good armor tanking skills. Haven't seen a Lv4 that it wouldn't have been able to tank/permarun. Just check the missions and see if there is a aggro trigger that unleashes everything. Hit it once and the whole place is buzzing. Then wait for them to target you and then unleash drones and have a cup of coffee. Slow, but works.
WH's are another matter though...

You're missing the ability of a properly (for this purpose; generally not my preference unless I'm very AFK or I've somehow emptied the gin cabinet) fitted Dominix to tank like a beast. So you actually want to draw all that fire on yourself and then just let your drones mop up. It's a bit of a waste of Gal BS 5 considering how much faster a gank fit sentry Domi can run missions, but it really is viable.
But then in theory a FoF Raven could do the same thing (albeit not quite as well). But I'm pretty sure those went out of style about 3-4 years ago. When you see someone with FoFs trained to 5, though, you can pretty much count on that as the reason.

Yep, dual LAR Domi. Although last time I used it, I didn't have the armor skills I do now. So I could probably get away with a single LAR these days.
Either way, kill all the triggers if there are any. Carry a civie gun in a high slot, which can draw aggro from any range.
Then release the hounds, and take a nap.
Mine had tractors/salvagers in the highs, so I could mop up as they went. |
