Objective The objective of this thread is to introduce and explain the activities of New Horizon Investments Mutual Fund.
------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
Contents 1. Introduction 2. Overview 3. BSAC Stock Exchange 4. Business Plan Overview 5. Management 6. Expansion and Exit Strategies 7. Investor Key Facts 8. Significant Risks 9. Purchase Details
------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
1. Introduction New Horizon Investments is an in-game corporation run by myself, Annabelle Horiz, although most will know me better as my main Skarii TuThess. It is a completely private investment corp that I set up to keep my investment activities separate to my other activities. NHI is wholly owned by my umbrella corporation Sunscape Syndicate.
So to summarise Skarii TuThess owns Sunscape Syndicate, whilst Sunscape Syndicate holds shares in all of the other corporations that I own or part own, such as New Horizon Investments and Lansez Innovations (and a few other corps that I am trying to get help with launching!).
2. Overview NHI is now running a Mutual Fund within the BSAC Stock Exchange called NHIMF. Unlike NHI which is entirely privately owned by myself, NHIMF will be open to public investment through the BSAC Stock Exchange. It will use investor capital to trade on the BSAC Stock Exchange only. It is my intention for NHI to own 10% of NHIMF.
Hope thatÆs not too confusing!
------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
3. BSAC Stock Exchange It is my opinion that the BSAC Stock Exchange is the future of the secondary market. Previous stock exchanges have relied upon tellers and other heavily manual solutions in order to work, and have ultimately not been successful as the workloads escalate. BSAC works by taking the load off of people and pulling it into their automated website solution.
You start by transferring ISK to BSAC MMM and opening an account. You are then free to trade your ISK within the stock exchange by using the website. You can buy and sell shares, and collect dividends all within the stock exchange through your account. The only time you need to interact with the system is when you want to either deposit or withdraw funds.
The website itself effectively acts as an ISK and share wallet alongside a share market. You can place buy and sell orders, as you might with an in-game item, and these appear within the website market. This makes the transfer of shares and ISK easy, as all are held by BSAC until you want to withdraw them.
The only downside is that to truly realise its potential it needs to have more corporations list themselves on it!

4. Business Plan Overview The fund has been created with a value of 1bn ISK. I will use this ISK to trade on the BSAC Stock Exchange in order to generate profit through both dividends and speculation. It is my intention to adopt a diverse but primarily low risk strategy. Ideally I would spread my investments in the following manner:
50% - Low risk corporate / bond investments seeking to make money through dividends 30% - Medium risk corporate / bond investments seeking to primarily make money through higher dividends 10% - Higher risk corporate investments seeking to make money primarily through short term share value speculation 10% - Stock investment speculation
The exact split will depend upon the IPOS, Bonds and Stock that is available and current market conditions. For example the current high levels of investor ISK is pushing down coupon rates so that even higher risk offerings have sub 10% rates of return that makes High Risk investments unfavourable. Additionally the slump in mineral prices makes the current climate for mineral speculation also unfavourable.
------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
5. Management As the account is run through the BSAC Stock Exchange management is very easy. I will not hold anyoneÆs ISK myself, nor any stocks or shares. I will also not be selling any shares myself as these are only purchasable through the BSAC Stock Exchange. This means that all I need to do is to advertise the fundÆs existence and to monitor the stock exchange making transactions as necessary from the research that I have conducted in the options available.
Due to the light workload the standard management fee will be 3% of any profit. It will not rise above 3% unless the fund is generating a monthly ROI of greater than 10%, in which case it may be increased to a maximum of 5%. Management fees will start at 1% whilst the fund gets going, and any changes in fees will be notified of 28 days in advance (in principle 1 dividend period).
I plan to make the majority of my money through this venture by investing in the fund myself. I currently have 100m placed in the fund, and intend to keep my investment level at 10%.
------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
6. Expansion and Exit Strategies If the fund is running well with over 90% of the fundÆs capital in use then I will seek to expand the fund. The intention to expand will be notified 28 days in advance of the expansion taking place. The increase of funds may be no more than 2bn ISK per month.
If I wish to cease trading then I will give 60 days notice of my intention to close the fund. During this time I will liquidate assets in order to allow for a repayment to be made at the end of the period after the final dividend is paid.
BSACÆs board of directors may of course take control of the fund in order to ensure that a smooth closure of the fund is conducted, and will have to approve any expansions.

7. Investor Key Facts
Dividends will be paid monthly on the 5th of every month. Dividends will be calculated as 90% of the profit (NAV growth) less the management fee.
NHIMF may force buyback shares at their nominal value. Forced buyback will have a notification period of 28 days. Forced buyback will only occur if the fund wishes to reduce the investment amount or is closing. Forced buyback will be proportional across the investors.
------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
8. Significant Risks
As with any investment there are always risks. Consider investment carefully as it is never risk free. Never trust anyone with more ISK than you can afford to lose!
Walk away scam: The risk of scamming is always possible. You are trusting you ISK to someone else and they can always do nefarious things with it once they are in control.
The risk of me just walking away with the cash is low. All ISK is held by BSAC Stock Exchange and can never be directly touched by me. I receive my management fee and share of the dividend like any other investor, so cannot just pocket the cash.
Dodgy Dealing Sacm: It is however possible through dodgy dealings for me to steal the ISK. I could for example open an account with an alt and trade to and from this alt with NHIMF, making a loss on the fund to profit my alt. In order to counter the possibility of this BSACÆs board of directors reserve the right to cancel or reverse any transaction that they deem to be illegal. They may also seize any assets I have placed with BSAC in order to cover damages caused by myself. The risk here is present, but it is also moderate to low. If anyone feels that any transaction is not legitimate they should immediately report it to BSAC MMM.
BSAC Scam: BSAC may of course just pocket it all himself. I consider this extremely unlikely due to the effort he has put in, but it is a possibility. I cannot reliably judge the risk here, so you would have to consider it to be high with regards to this offering as it is not within my control (although I personally consider it to be low).
Hit by a bus: If I suddenly drop off the face of the planet then all ISK and shares are held within the BSAC stock exchange. The fund can be liquidated or taken over by someone else û whatever BSAC deem necessary.
Incompetency: I feel that the most significant risk is that I will be a crap fund manager. It is entirely possible that I will lose and not earn money on the fund. Although I keep abreast of MD news, have a good understanding of both Eve and business practices I have little experience with being a fund manager other than my experience with NHI. It is running profitably, although I have been caught out by two scams, the first losing me 75m ISK, and the second losing me 810m ISK (just less than the monthly dividend the corp was receiving).
Remember that if I do a bad job then you will not get a full share value refund when the corp closes. This is an IPO and not a bond û the value of your investment may go down as well as up.
------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
Purchase Details NHIMF shares are available for purchase on the BSAC Stock Exchange. Do not reserve shares here as there is nothing I can do about it. In order to purchase shares you will need to log into your BSAC account and purchase them through the BSAC Stock Exchange.
If you do not have a BSAC Account you should contact BSAC MMM who will be able to set one up for you.

Hi guys - I think you missed a few parts within the business plan:
This is not apart of the LLSE micro offerings that is being run by Cista2, it is a completely separate fund set up and run within the BSAC Stock Exchange and managed by myself.
Shares are only available for purchase through the BSAC Stock Exchange, but are actively trading now. I don't have access or hold any of the cash, so making a reservation won't help as there's nothing I can do about it. If you wish to purchase shares then please send ISK to BSAC MMM and send an evemail to that character asking for an account to be set up. You will get a reply with your username and password. Then you can login and purchase shares / stock listed on the exchange (look under FUND in the top nav bar, and then select NHIMF). [NHI] Investing in the sunny days of tomorrow. |

Seems like that might have happened. It's too bad. How many publically traded corps are traded by NHIMF usually? Seems like T4U might have been a very big part of the portfolio. _________ Eve - for when I'm not playing minecraft ;) |

NHIMF was doing well trading TITANS4U shares (about 8% margin), but end up with 14,155 shares when the scam happened. That's approximately a 170 M loss. I'll let the manager do the full report.

That's peanuts, and mutual funds are supposed to lose value when the market has a shock or downturn.

Sorry for the late report, had written a "yay us" one to start with but when the scam hit I needed a rewrite!
Well it has been a month of mixed fortunes. The fund manager cut functionality of the exchange has not yet been implemented, so the system isn't 100% in place to start offering dividends at present (I was going to just forgo it for this month as it is only 1%), but then there won't be any this month sadly due to the T4U scam.
Up until then it was going pretty well. I had decided to adopt a mixed strategy of partly going for dividends and partly going for price speculation. This was using both the mineral bonds and the available listed shares. For the shares I identified 2 main contenters - Pyerite and Zydrine. The past %age payout of Pyerite was good, and the price was stable. The plan here was to buy a decent size bulk and wait for the dividend payments to generate the cash, taking advantage of any price fluctuations available. This netted a small profit from the latter and a 4% dividend from the bond. Zydrine was a bit more of a gamble, but the aim here was to use the greater fluctuations to drive profit this way.
For the shares it quickly became evident that all of them were either inactive, or hot property other than T4U. With spare cash available I decided to set up a rotation, buying shares at around ú12k and selling them for over ú13k. This was working well as a strategy as people decided to drop / pick up shares with little competition from anyone else.
At this stage I was looking at around a 50m (5%) monthly profit, which is reasonable I think.
Then 2 things happened. Pyerite prices crashed overnight from 4.2 to 3.6 isk per unit. This was not a major issue for me as the intention was to hold on to them and collect the dividends. Prices have recovered to around 4.05 now and although a bit volatile is showing signs of a longer term recovery, and so I am not expecting any loss on this. However it does mean that the NAV (which is based off of the last transacted price) is lowered. However the main thing was the T4U scam. That cost around 200m ISK (peanuts compared to some, but a large portion of the 1bn fund account).
This means that the current fund NAV is 838m isk, representing a loss of 162m ISK in the first month. Pretty spectacularly bad!! [NHI] Investing in the sunny days of tomorrow. |

It was the only shares that I was trading in, the rest was using the mineral reserve. This made things a little stagnant as of course for the speculative trading i was having to wait for minerals to reach what I perceived as their low point before picking them up. Now with short selling I also can wait for the high points.
What we really need is for more people to launch their IPOS / Bonds on teh exchange. I think that the only thing holding it back at present is the low number of corps listed. The more corps the more people will be attracted the more corps will get onto it.
Struggling to work out the best way to do this. Obviously I have an interest in more corps being on it as it gives the fund greater opportunities to invest. I wonder if it is worth picking up something nominal like 10% of small / medium range investments to then transfer onto the exchange - but I think this is a good discussion for Block to have with the MD community.
