Been away from Eve for about a year but training character continuously, I came back to start playing, while doing a lvl 4 mission in hi-sec, had someone come into my screen, I guess to salvage the wrecks, which was fine by me.
I gather he was just sitting watching, I did not bother trying to talk with him, I was in a missile drake, so I knew I could survive if attacked while continuing to play, after about 10 minutes, he turned red to me, started to fly around me within 3 to 5 km while I still trying to fight the mission. Unfortunately I had to stop playing because I thought I was going to smack him around by unintentionally targeting him.
My question is this, since he did turn red to me, I think I could have shot him down with consequence to follow but could I have just ignored him while he was red and act like he was not there and continued to play? I realize he was just there to provoke me, so by me not doing nothing and him being red and not shooting, there would be no bad outcomes, right?

You can indeed shoot without consequence - from CONCORD - when said person is flashing red to you (doubtless he had been clearing up excess debris from your mission site which, presuably, you failed to tidy away yourself). --- Your wreck, my wreck - it's just semantics non-EVE blog: http://post-non-doc.blogspot.com |

Sounds like he was waiting till he had some corp mates in the same system, then took some of your loot and tried to get you to attack.

kinda sucks his corp mates can join in, if he had to face the music alone i bet this sort of griefing would happen less.
He wants you to attack so he can bring 20 people in to pop your ship or talk smack in chat so he can report you and try to get you banned.
Your best bet is to ignore him remember the name and get some sort of payback another day.

Unless CCP changed things in a major way, his corpmates can't attack if you shoot him, only himself can. And they don't ban for smacktalk.

Haven't corpmates always been able to shoot you if you shoot the loot thief?

Its ignorant statements like this that lead to the debacle found in C&P because some carebear has absolutely no understanding of aggression mechanics.
If someone steals from your can, then anyone in YOUR corporation can shoot them for up to 15mins.
If you shoot them, no one in their corporation can shoot you.
Maybe you MRs should have a sticky explaining how aggression mechanics work when dealing with pesky ninja salvagers. ♥

Edited by: Tiberizzle on 14/08/2010 02:57:05 If you don't have a point there's a chance he's going to warp out and grab a ship fit specifically for raping PvE fits with mission-specific hardeners and damage as soon as you agress. If you do have a point there's a chance half a dozen neutral reppers land on top of him a little while after you begin aggression. Unless you are actually baiting ninja looters / mission griefers, you're probably better off ignoring him.
If he's going out of his way to loot every wreck, you can pop them as he's getting to them to really **** him off.
