Edited by: Eternum Praetorian on 08/08/2010 03:09:30 Is it or is it not possible to simply add something to the EVE client that could detect whether people are RMTing?
Seems simple, seems doable, and it seems like it would fix a hell of allot. But I am no programmer so discus . . .

Yes its simple all the program has to do is hack into our bank accounts and repetedly check our balences in combination with the average price of ISK. Then cross check the amount leaving our wallet and who it goes to.
It is so simple, quick everyone had over your pin# and passwords so CCP can fix a miner(get that) issue!!!

While they are at it they should add something to the EVE servers that could stop the game from lagging.
Seems simple, seems doable, and it seems like it would fix a hell of allot. But I am no programmer so discus . . .

Edited by: Eternum Praetorian on 08/08/2010 03:39:37 Hmm... so companion troll thread is the sincerest form of flattery?
What I gather is that ultimately it is possible but people are so paranoid that the EVE client will "steal info" and "Spy on their computers" that they would never allow it anyway.
Because god knows CCP wants to steal the credit card info that I already gave them.
Discuss.

it's next to impossible, sure you can make something incredibly intrusive and worse than starforce and securom combined that'll shutdown every macro, and it might last a while, but then it'll get worked around your **** out of luck again and in a worse boat.
and it wasn't just possiblity it was the terrible op post you had
"HEY I THINK ITS EASY WHY ISN'T IT HERE" without knowing anything about macros or bothering to look it up, in short it was a terrible post, and you fail.

I have not yet begun to post poorly thought out, half baked, half a**ed, opinionated excrement with little to no actually knowledge on the subject. I am a EVE Forum dweller, that is what I do. I am a parrot who only repeats what I hear.
Where have you been posting?
And what separates me from all of the other parrots, is that I will dare to fail so hard with my main. I am an eve god.

Why would CCP want to stop macros and RMT's? That means less accounts, therefore less money for CCP. Contrary to popular belief, CCP is a business. The only thing that matters is the bottom line and how much cash comes in.

TL;DR : you're full of bovine excrement and have no idea what the big picture is.
...
Even if you assume what you said would be true and CCP would only care about the money and nothing else (which isn't accurate), it would be just because of that in CCP's best interest to hunt down and destroy as many macros and RMTs as possible !
First off, a macro/RMT account consumes disproportionately more server-side resources on average compared to a regular player, an order of magnitude more in fact (see Unholy Rage related blogs), so having a higher population of them is NOT in CCP's best financial interest. On top of that already more than sufficient argument, you have the fact that macro/RMT users will have no problem overbidding on PLEX as much as it takes (raising PLEX price through ingame pressure), while at the same time offering ISK for sale at prices more attractive than in-game PLEX sales (lowering PLEX supply because those people that do buy ISK no longer need to sell PLEX), so the end result is a higher PLEX price, which results in LESS ACTIVE ACCOUNTS, comparable to the number of macro/RMT accounts, so in the end, CCP doesn't really get extra accounts either way (or at least not noticeably more).
So, all in all, you get more demand on the server hardware for no increase in revenue. How exactly does that make any financial sense ?
P.S. And in case you still had any doubts, how about this : CCP could EASILY make a truckload of extra money by simply UNDERBIDDING macro/RMT users, since they (CCP) can just spawn ANYTHING that exists ingame (not just basically infinite amounts of ISK for next to no effort), even things that no longer exist ingame, things RMTers could never even hope to get their hands on. So... if CCP "only cares about the money", why don't they just take over the RMTers' business model away from them ? They could make truckloads more cash than they can make from subscribing RMT accounts and current legitimate PLEX seller/user pairings, they could drive RMT accounts into oblivion by denying them business through aggressive undercutting, and all of this would also result in much lower server loads.

P.S. And in case you still had any doubts, how about this : I whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror If anything I can say that this cab was rare But I thought 'Nah forget it' - 'Yo homes to Bel Air' I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo homes smell ya later' I looked at my kingdom I was finally there To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air
And Fixed!

I thought CCP was the main RMT trader right now ;) Still one of the best strategic moves of CCP for the last years. Ofcourse you can't stop individuals but the larger operation surely must've hurt by the ability to buy plexes with rl $.
