Yep, another one of these threads. Forgive me if this one has been done before.
A post in another thread got me thinking about this. I started playing games back in 1981. It would be impossible for me to name every game Ive played, It would be in the 1000's, literally.
First game i can remember: PONG on some weird orange console system that the name of eludes me.
First Arcade game: Donkey Kong (Mud-pie factory!)
Here are some other arcade games thru the years that I remember loving. Donkey Kong Jr Marble madness (remember this one?) Gauntlet (in my best deep voice: Valkyrie needs fooooood badly!) Double Dragon Pac-man, Ms pac-man, baby pac-man etc. etc. Dragon's Lair (first true 3D game) Crusin' USA Deer-Hunter (you shot a female!) Marvel VS Capcom 2 (nothing like getting owned from a mouthy 12 year old ) Area 51
Here are some of the console games that stick out in my mind. First console, Colleko Vision. 1982 Cosmic Avenger Lady Bug (thier version of Pac-man. played 16 hours straight one night on one bug!)
Second console, 8-bit Nintendo, 1984 Doctor gyro (yep, i had the Robot, your WAY oldschool if you remember this) Super Mario Brothers (goes without saying) SMB 3 (still one of the greats) Double Dribble (sweet spot 3 pointers!) Tecmo Bowl 1 (cr/\ck) Baseball Stars (had all female team, hit 15 home runs in a row one game) Baseball Simulater 1000 (hit a ball so far one game it never came down. literally, we waited 45 minutes, it would circle over the stadium every 10 minutes but never landed. Had to reset the game ) Legend of Zelda (eat poo Ganon) Final Fantasy 1 (eat poo Garland) Nogabunga's Ambition
Thrid console, Super Nintendo Super Mario World Mario Kart (still the best one, its all about the hook-slide baby) Soldier of Fortune (lost classic, very fun multi-player game) Zelda: Link to the past (favorite Zelda game) Final fantasy 3 (still my favorite RPG of all time, Mog's Sasquatch's... woot!) Tecmo Bowl 3 (again, cr/\ck) Street Fighter 2 Turbo (still remember the Chun Li triple bounce then glide across the screen out of sight above then dropping with the spear kick down and combo into your death)
Fourth console, Sega Genesis Harrier (loved it for some weird reason) Lakers VS Celtics (held a tourney record for most pts in a game) Madden 1 (1990, had 8 teams) NHL Hockey 1 (1990, had 8 teams, never lost) NHL Hockey 3 (1993? , last one to feature blood when you had fist fights)
Fifth console, Playstation 1 Resident Evil 1 (skinless gorilla's!) Twisted Metal 2 Final Fantasy 7 (when Aeris died I really did feel bad) Final Fantasy 9 (friggin' quality) XMEN VS Street Fighter (one of my fav's) ...I know i'm missing some here. Sixth console, Nintendo 64 NFL Blitz (scored 108-0 on some dude, my friggin punter scored) Donkey Kong 64 (total classic) Zelda: Ocarina of time Pokemon Stadium (hate the cartoon, but loved this game)
Seventh console, Playstation 2 Final fantasy 10 (I'll admit it, I got owned by Seymour Flux) ...again, missing some, mind going blank. Eighth console, Nintendo gamecube Eternal Darkness (this.. isnt.. happening!!) Cel Damage (no one has ever heard of this one, but truely one of the funnest games ever made) NASCAR series (from other thread, my hand STILL hurts!) Madden (played every version, but note them here because they took off in quality) MVP Baseball (best baseball game ever made) Well, thats all the ones that come off the top of my head. I played WAY more then these but a memory can only be so good. Favorite game of all time: Final Fantasy 3 USA edition. Most hated: Super Mario Sunshine (if I ever meet the team that did this one I will punch someone in the face)
Whats some of your favorites? help me remember the one's I left out.

Arcade.
Probaly Ghosts and Goblins, used to sit and try and fail on that all the time.
Well and outrun, i just loved that and chase HQ.
Console, well nothing ever realy grabbed me, id say the only thing that ever realy did was NHL hockey Ea's.. the first league players edition, 92 i think.
Those were the days, probaly not as exicting as the early dragon/spectrum days, but hey..... ------------------------

Someone plays way too many games. (Not me)
Console Atari: Some game where I was this flying 'cross' in space and shot strange balls at things. Can't remember the name for the life of me.
Nintendo: Contra. And a few other assorted Star Trek ones.
Super Nintendo: Wing Commander And that's it really, never got into console games after that. Stuck with the Computer.
Arcade: Again can't remember a simple name of the game. But it was a fantasy multi-player one (had a few sequals), where you just go around in these random dungeon mazes with a timer looking for the exit. All the while killing everything and their spawn sites and gaining loot for extra time. Had a fighter, barbarian, mage and archer.

Just dig games of all types.
Never had an Atari Sounds like Asteroids though.
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b,a,b,a = 30 lives
Didn't hit the Wing Commander series. But hearing enough people rave about it over time has made me regret it.
The last one sounds like Gauntlet. The 4-player edition when it came out was/is an all-time classic. (Blue Elf is about to die!) ------------------

How can I pick just a few from all the games I've loved over the years....
Spectrum - Doomdark's Revenge & Elite SNES - Super Mario Kart PS1 - Final Fantasy VII PC - Championship Manager 2 (so many hours at university), Frontier (landing on planets was nice!) and Sim City 4 (I've had every single Sim City game, even had it on the Spectrum. The series just keeps getting better) Arcade - Power Drift (it's finally coming to Mame!), Paperboy and my all time favorite arcade game: The New Zealand Story

Paperboy - Oh yea, forgot that one. Remember it being alot of fun. Console version just didnt stack up against arcade.
The New Zealand Story - Missed this one. What was it like?
Spectrum (system/console?) - Never heard of this. Anyone care to educate me? When did it exist and made by who? ------------------

Strike series, for lack of a better term, was really fun.
Sid Meyer's Civ - Revolutionary, but, Sid Meyer's ALPHA CENTAURI (sp?) brings back even more memories for me personally. Those high-end Nuke missiles, they way they sounded when they hit, the crater in the ground where a cluster of town/bases use't to be, just really brings a smile to my face and gives you that warm feeling inside.

It was a 2d platform game. Really cutesy, simple concept, but I used to be able to complete the game with just one credit (10p, back in the day!) which took about 40 minutes. Talk about getting your money's worth
Originally by: DONTSTEALME Spectrum (system/console?) - Never heard of this. Anyone care to educate me? When did it exist and made by who?
You young whippersnapper Back before consoles (well the Atari was out), we had the old equivalent of PCs. The Spectrum had 48k of RAM (no hard drive) and you loaded games via a tape recorder which generally took 3-5 minutes. Games sometimes didn't load at all and you had to go back and try again. I (and loads of other speccy users) used to do silly things like holding your breath at key times when it's loading, just in case the airflow in some way interfered with the game loading (I'm not joking either!) Still, it produced some of the most memorable games I've ever played.
And I'll second Bellicose's nomination of Flashback. That game was amazing!

It was a 2d platform game. Really cutesy, simple concept, but I used to be able to complete the game with just one credit (10p, back in the day!) which took about 40 minutes. Talk about getting your money's worth

PSOne Tekken 2 (Anyone here who can take me playing Baek I'd be surprised )
XBox Halo
Arcade The dancing games, fortnightly ritual at work :D
FIFA - EA's? If so, enjoy playing those once and a while.
Night trap - Never played that. (but Boobies make me happy too)
Tekken 2 - Didnt' have a natural knack for Tekken series. So, you'd own me.
Halo 1 and 2 - Haven't gotten around to getting XBOX yet. But very fun the few chances I've gotten to play'em.
dancing games - Tried DDR once, got laughed out of the arcade. ------------------

The only console my family ever owned was a generic-type Pong set. Other than that, my favorite classics were all on my Commodore 64:
- Jumpman - Impossible Mission - M.U.L.E. - Legacy of the Ancients - and, of course, Elite
All of my more recent favorites have all been on the PC:
- SimCity (all versions) - The Myst series (until URU: Path of the Shell, which will keep me from ever buying anything from Cyan again) - and, of course, EVE

Thank god I'm not the only one that still remembers these games exist. Samurai Shodown II was also great. The KoF franchise just hasn't been able to top what they produced in '98, though.
And for those of you that haven't tried any of these games, search for them. It's like the company forcibly kidnapped the very best game programmers and 2D animators in the world and chained them to their desks till they produced a masterpiece. Then took said game, and injected it with the essence of a thousand baseball movie endings and Christmases. And released it on the market only after actually play testing it to see if it was fun. ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |

Megadrive - Sonic 2. Snes - Super Mario World. N64 - (Far too many to name, greatest console EVAR) Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda:OOC, Conker's Bad Fur Day, GoldenEye, Diddy Kong Racing... PSone shared the house with an N64 in it's prime... I never played it. GameCube - Skies of Arcadia Legends PS2 - Gitaroo Man (very hard to get, we got one copy in our district, everyone gathered in the local game store to play it, a true classic that deserves better).
