I have recently gotten curious about exploration. I created my 4th alt, which will be a scanning alt. So far I've gotten astrometrics IV, rangfinding IV, pinpointing IV and acquisition IV. I had originally intended to go rangfinding V and maybe pinpointing V, not sure yet. I know V is over-kill, but this IS an alt with the intent on being an expert scanner. I chose Minmatar initially because I always hear of their raw DPS & speed. Navigation will also be maxed out. I am just curious as to how much exploring in highsec is worth it, and how it's income can compare to missions. I haven't ran missions for over a year. I live in a fully-upgraded nullsec sys, which as of late is being completely annihilated by PL, so I moved to a safe station and made this alt in highsec to use there until null clears out. I'm anxious to try this, as it's completely new to me. I am, however, spoiled by nullsec. I'm used to bringing in 100mill/isk/day on avg and I wonder if it's possible to do so via archeology & hacking sites. Especially once I move back down to nullsec, I've heard so many people in our alliance who've found Marchariel blueprints and more selling them for great ammount of isks. So this has sparked my interest greatly in these hacking sites and etc. As one or two finds can fund an account several times over, especially in nullsec.

Ooh, thank you for your oh-so-informative reply. You obviously provide a lot of information.

Seriously dude, paragraphs. They're your friend.
No, you will not make that much ISK/hour in highsec, and you will still have to have a light combat ship (AFs are good) to kill the rats.
Yes, you will make that much ISK/hour in nullsec but it will require you to use a very capable T3/Battleship/HAC to clear the pockets.

/thread. However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

No, frankly Bad Princess was right. If your OP had read like this it might actually have gotten a productive response:
Quote: I'm curious as to how much exploring in highsec is worth it, and how it's income can compare to missions.
I haven't run missions for over a year and (at used to) live in a fully-upgraded nullsec sys, but it has recently been annihilated by PL, so I moved to a safe station and made a scanning alt in highsec to use there until null clears out.

tl;dr? I want to start scanning in hi-sec during our difficult period and would like to know if hi-sec scanning is worth more than L4 missions, but I'd also like to see how much 0.0 sites can be realistically worth.
So try again with something more along those lines?

IMO archaeology sites in hisec are worthless. Radar sites, on the other hand, can provide a nice little income. Nowhere near 100 mil a day, though, at least not from my experience.
Finding hisec radar sites is sporadic. Over the last few weeks I've done a lot of scanning (primarily in Amarr space) and it's not unusual to find 4 or 5 radar (hacking) sites in less than 20 minutes, and then spend the next 2 hours scanning and finding nothing.
I was going to finish by telling you approximately how much I earn per hour running hisec radar sites on average. I now realize I have no idea what the average is, it's just too streaky and unpredictable. I highly doubt you will be able to pull in 100 million per day consistently. |

It is possible to make a decent amout of money in high sec imo.
Good example is the other night when "Guristas Vigil" (i think) escalated for me when i flew to my second site in the expedition and poped the dread gurista cruiser he dropped a low-grade crystal alpha implant, dread guristas medium sheild booster and a dread guristas invul field. Was a good day made 600mil +.
But like ppl say its all luck based. Just have to keep trying never know what you will come across.
Ohh and you cant beat a t3 cruiser for exploration imo scan , tank, spank , hack whatever all in one ship

1. Paragraphs
2. Don't do high-sec exploration. Get yourself a nice faction battleship and run lvl 4s.
3. If you're really set on exploration, get a tengu and do exploration in null.

Yes you can make over 100 mill isk per day from Radar sites in high security. The trick is to find a few out of the way, low populated, secluded systems that are filled with exploration sites. You'll have plenty of signatures to complete in each system. By the time you get back to the first system, it'll have more sites again. Just continue doing the 'Round Robin'. I'm talking about systems that have 10 to 30 Cosmic signatures each. Usually you'll find at least 2 to 6 Radar sites.
Price per Decryptor ranges from 5 to 30 mill at least. That's for 1 Decryptor. You should be able to get 100 mill per day from high security Radar sites. You just gotta set up a couple of good routes first. That's what exploration is all about.
Level 4 exploration skills with a Cov Ops Force Recon Cruiser fitted with Sisters launcher and probes, scan rigs and maybe a scan implant will have no problem finding and completing the sites. You'll be able to 'Fly' right on through without having to refit or switch out ships.
As for doing the actual probing, the signature will show what type it is in the results box before it get's to 100%, if it's not a Radar or Mag site just ignore it in the results box and go to the next signature. This will enable you to quickly find and complete the sites you want.
Good luck and welcome to exploration.

0.5 - 0.7 radar sites are good. 0.5 combat sites are good, they are normally 4/10 complexes. Drone combat sites are worthless.

Not sure you'd do a consistant 100mil a day in high sec, depends on how many hours you play a day though.
You do occasionally get some nice finds in high sec, one of my best finds came earlier this week with a vigilant bpc drop and faction mwd which combined was worth about 400mil. In my experience drops like that are rare. You will get good days though when you'll find a good few radar sites and exploration complexes and get some faction mods, implants and t2 salvage.
