Just what is the difference between all these different shield mods like Hardners, Amplifiers, Boosters, etc whats the most effective/useful. And is it worth using them as an Amarr with pretty weedy shield, or should I put more on Armour/Hull strength and a greater percentage increase.

Amarr armor tank for one thing.
Shield boosters = repairs your shield
Shield amp = boosts the amount the shield booster repairs
Shield hardener = raises your shield resistances

As long as you have the tactical shield skill, you could put an EM shield hardner on your Apoc, for some1 using say Mjolnir Torps on u, this little device would effectively double your shield hitpoints.
However, thats just about the only shield mod I would use on an Apoc.... the other Mid slots would be for Cap recharge/scramble/Webbing/jamming.
