The makeup, smiles and acrobatics are all just one big masquerade hiding the tears of a clown. And a kidnapping.

Still, an interesting read. It went from "Hmm.." to "Ah some insights to how "entertainment" in the Amarr empire goes". Then it went to .

Very well done! I especially like the human element you lend to Cherall by showing him dealing with the internal torment he feels as he puts on his show with the kidnapping weighing on his mind.
I also love the fact that EVE's universe is so morally ambiguous, and this story highlights that fact quite well.

Edited by: Manfred Rickenbocker on 10/08/2010 17:10:06 Good chronicle, very sad ending. It is slightly ambiguous whether he is willing to stand for his own faith (as evidenced by his personal prayers) or he is just unwilling to stand up to the theology council. Also some confusion as to the relationship between the Tadama and Cherall, seems they broke up, but not fully. Or at least its a seemingly one-way break up at the beginning but by the end Tadama accepts that they are divorced.

Yup, gotta teach children that stealing is wrong somehow otherwise they might grow up to be Bloody Hand of Matar and abducting other children to get what they want. I think a little additional irony in this chronicle would have been if the moral to the children had been "The Ends do not justify the Means." ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |

Wow...
I've played Eve for years and years... read every single iota, every single letter of fiction available to me... and a bit of other fiction that I really shouldn't have had my hands on at that point...
But this is probably the first chronicle that actually gave me shivers. Jesus. MORE JASONITAS CHRONICLES.
NOW.

Edited by: TheLostPenguin on 10/08/2010 18:19:35 Another good read, and a chilling reminder of how many induvidual tales of loss and suffering surround any conflict.
Since nobody else has, I'll now don spelling and grammer hat briefly :P First paragraph "ôNo, not at all. He finds it rather amusing, as do I.ö The girl waved back and forth lightly on her heels as she talked." "waved" just doesnt scan nicely for me, being very nitpicky I must admit but why not just rocked? Personal style diference perhaps :P
Fourth paragraph "She stood on her tiptoes and extended her arm out, putting on finger at the crown of CherallÆs multicolored head." Should read "putting one finger" surely :)
Ok enough rude pickyness from me, thanks again for another good chron that went somewhere slightly ddiferent to where I thought it might :)

Edited by: Nukleanis on 10/08/2010 19:07:10 A couple of things I picked up on:
ôI named my favorite slave after Mr. Wayward" and "The Minmatar, being wayward children..."
Are these references to All these wayward children, or has the term used by Jamyl in said chronicle entered contemporary Amarrian vernacular? Are the Amarrians taking a more compassionate view of the other races under Jamyl's rule (Amarrians seemed to be a lot more aloof a few years ago)?
ôChildren of God, do you know what time it is?ö
Howdy Doody time, perhaps? :)

You do know we are talking about the Amarrians here? All this "singing" on their stations killed their braincells, they would do anything their so-called God and the clerics tell them to do, even giving their kids into slavery

On second thought...
It does reveal what "everyday" Amarr might be like...or at least, the modern sectors of society. What turned me off Amarr RP (though they are my 2nd fave behind Caldari) is they came across very 'anachronistically'...and didn't seem very suiting...however, given modern behemoth nations like India and China, it fits...for these countries have a mixture of both ultra-modern areas, as well as backwater regions (which, in Amarr sense, would be the sort of places from Merely Disassembled)
As you can see the story itself has gone over my head completely lol...I'll give it another read soon enough. ------------ Luminaire General Seriphyn Inhonores Eleutherian Guard [FDU] |

I feel for that poor clown. It seams like everybody in Ammar Empire loves the guy and what he does and i could understand why he wasn't sure if he should give in to the demands. Hes not just making a show for millions of children, he's making the show for trillions and trillions of children. To the Ammar he's a hero, someone who teaches the children morals in a fun and exciting way. In his mind, canceling his show forever could damn those trillions of children. He in a way could see that the salvation of those children is resting in his hands, but then again what would he be teaching the children if he let his daughter die?
I think too many people like to paint the Ammar as evil, faith-mongering lunatics, when in reality they are just as human as the Minmatar. I think that in reality what makes people human is the good that people strive to do. The Bloody hand of Matar are no better than the Ammarians that enslaved and slaughtered millions of Minmatar. There hands truly are bloody, bloodied by the innocents that they kill willingly every moment of there lives.
Anyway, good chronicle, has a lot of feeling in it. I just hope that the poor man got his daughter back.
There is no doubt that what he was searching for in the crowd of faces was innocence. How blind all children are to the terrible state of the universe because of it.

I think that's what he tells himself to justify his actions, but doing what the terrorists wanted would have also resulted in his destruction at the hands of the Theological Council. I think the line about how his show was endorsed by the Theological Council wasn't a point of pride, but a statement of fear, weighing the risks as he made his decision. All the time, people do selfish things and then justify them as being for some principle. That's what I see here, anyway.

"The Theology Council has officially endorsed our show for the edification of the faith."
That line alone changes the situation into a life or death decision.
Creating a new L2~L3 mission regarding either Cherall(as the traitor) or his daughter(kidnapped) may do some good to the narrative perspective of the game. (Theology Council is the second main source of Amarrian kill missions, after all )

Just thought of this. But wouldn't the Theology Council have the power to strike Cherall's name from the Book of Life or Book of Records or whatever it's called? If so, that would give more weight to him obeying the Council - out of fear of damnation. He'd never have to worry about the fate of his daughter's soul; sure she'd be dead, but she'd never have her name stricken from the Book. Him, on the other hand...
Anyway, just my two cents.

It is good to see a man of conviction . His decision was both morally and mathematically correct . I would have done the same thing in real life . Death is not final . He will be reunited with his daughter in Paradise in the halls of Glory . Sadly the girls mother has damned herself .
From a mathematical perspective just imagine what would have happened if he would have betrayed his faith on air : The human filth Matar will have slit the girls neck anyway and laughed about it Taliban Style . Secondly the entertainer would have causes considerable mental scarring in many children who would have grown up with trauma and turned away from Truth . His decision was simple enough : have his child killed or countless others ! He did not decide out of fear for the Council but out of love for his young viewers . 1 < 1 + n , Decision mathematically correct .
To the martyrs : Glory !

This confirms my thoughts that the Minmatars are a bunch of whiny violent terrorists. So utterly blind on revenge that they fails on recognising conscience and reasons. I do not see Caldarians running around kidnapping young children, whose fathers give happiness to billions if not trillion of children all around the universe, threatening the father to openly denouncement of whatever he and trillion of other children believes in lest they kill the young child.
Do you not see the inhumane and unethical part of this? Killing a grown man may be fine for the purpose you believe in but a child, a young child who have not experienced life yet.
Jamyl freed the 9th and up generation of slaves, a gesture of good will to the Minmatar people, a gesture which went against the teachings of the Amarrian religion and doctrines. I have never heard of Minmatars making ANY gesture of good will.
The terrorist attack on an Amarrian station? The Elder attack which saw million of Amarrians murdered, the murder of a Minmatar cleric who went into Minmatar space to teach people willing to learn about the Amarrian religion and now this despicable act? The Minmatars are proving that they are a worse bunch of people than Amarrians.
I am surprised that no Imperial Navy fleets have yet made attacks or incursions into Minmatar space and slaughter people, they were even stationed along the Amarr/Minmatar borders as defensive measures AFTER the event of the Elder attack where the Republic Fleet openly let Elder ships passed by.
The past deeds of the Amarr may be evil and despicable, the Minmatars are now modern-day equivalent of Amarrs. No longer enslaving people but out-right killing innocent souls.
**** the Minmatar Republic, **** their whiny little moaning. I hope the Minmatars collapse back into the heap of **** that is tribalism. An outdated system in a modern age, like absolute monarchies in the modern world.
Long live the Empress, Asakura Gisaki.

The purpose of life is to do GodÆs will and finally to be reunited with God . The sacrifice of the child was not an utter destruction of the child but the exact opposite . It is sad that the child had to be redeemed as a martyr in sufferance , but hey what is sufferance if you get in return eternal glory ?
**** the promises of God ? Oh really ? This tells me you either set yourself above God or deny him . It changes nothing the reward is hell .
How can your children be holy territory if you donÆt believe in the existence of God / holiness ? This is a contradiction in terms . You donÆt need to share your children , God will take them regardless of your petty efforts .
How do you know that there is no other love greater then to love your children ? If God exists then your statement is false because he sets the rules not you . If he does not exist then it is just your word / thought / idea against the words of others . Why should you be right and not someone else who thinks otherwise ? Regardless of the possibilities your statement is false .
