Why they are kept separate? Because they live in a communist totalitarian state that doesn't allow free expression that tries to control everything that their people see, think, and know, all necessary to keep the regime in power.
That said, I wish we could be kept a little MORE separate, as the farmers sure seem to be able to get into TQ...

Incidentally, what is the lag like on the chinese server, would becoming a communist really be such a bad idea?

Maybe if you learned a few facts then maybe you could make your bigotry a bit more compelling. The Great Wall was built in an attempt to control repeated Mongol invasions. Mongols, ever heard of them? Genghis Khan and all that stuff, largest contiguous Empire in the history of the planet? Started out right next door to China? Oh well, nevermind, actual history probably isn't as interesting as your "just make stuff up about other people" method.

Once could make the argument that the 'Big F-You' was to the mongols

(Actually the Mongols were just one enemy involved in the history of the wall.) But the point is that you just can not lump billions of people into a single culture labelled with one a single word simply based upon the fact that they live where various walls have been built.

The chinese server is to placate the chinese government, nothing more. There's plenty of chinese players on tq. It's true, just go to any highsec ice belt for proof.

You're serious, aren't you?
The same could be said about the US

CCP wants you to refrain talking about politics, even though it's EVE related, in here. Chinese style.
They are weighting western free speech vs. eastern profit.
Eastern profit won.

if what ppl have said is true...why dont the chinese have their own server for every mmo? iv played loads of mmos with chinese runnign around, and I know one guy who works for a gold farming company...a full on incorporated company with offices and everything i doubt a company like that could survive off of just selling gold to chinese people on chinese servers.

They say it's the whole ideology of how the Eastern players prefer to buy products in games vs Western not really being too big on that.
THE TRUTH IS, THEY THOUGHT IT WOULD RUIN TRANQUILITY'S ECONOMY
Now, all of us without blinders on and drinking the punch realize they might as well merge because we have SO MANY MACRO ACCOUNTS on Tranquility it's already tanking the economy.
ooooh, wait. CCP doesn't care about that either.
Wait, could it be? RMT loss allowing Chinese to play on their own server was acceptable vs RMT loss if we all were on one server.
All CCP cares about is the RMT (getting their cut). That is the only remaining reason CCP will not merge the servers. They want their GTC cut and that is all that matters.
--- Players are losing faith and loyalty in CCP due previous expansions not living up to player expectations. The CSM and CCP agreed that expectation management can be improved |

I have a lot of Chinese neighbours around one of my low-sec homes, such as the Great Sage Equaling Heaven members, and I've never seen them macroing, just playing the game and enjoying themselves like anyone else.
They are aware of this widespread perception from Westerners towards Chinese people, and they poke fun at it. Their English is for the most part not that good though, so I don't think they'll be coming here to point out the flaws of extending some obtuse generalization or another to a collective that adds up to nearly 20% of humanity.

They have different laws and regulations, our version of EVE is not suitable for them, for instance there is a limit to how long they can play in a day, I could be wrong with this assumption but I could of swore I saw it mentioned some where. |

Speaking of tyranny, how often does CCP magically wipe away an entire page of discussion without even attempting to acknowledge why they did it? Obviously, it's their forum their rules. However, it seems just a tad bit inappropriate for them to magic away several people's discussion without providing reason or recourse.

I'm assuming that part of the deal between the (security obsessed and paranoid) Chinese authorities and CCP that allowed Eve China in the first place was an agreement that the state security services could monitor the game activities of any 'indiviudals' they might be interested in. This sort of snooping would be impossible if the two servers were connected, it's officially illegal in EU and USA without warrants based on evidence of terrorist/criminal connections etc.
The Chinese aren't daft, they know that MMOs have been well infiltrated by opposition groups as a secure/semi secure means of covert communication. Coded conversations in local, private messages and chats, BMs contracted to cargo containers in the middle of nowhere with codes in the container name. I'm sure it's all been done and I'm sure our own server is well used for this purpose too. Why not? You can travel into an area where any surveilance operation is going to struggle to keep tabs on you and your activities and communications.

I make no generalizations about the Chinese people - just the government they live under. They're human so I assume there are differing opinions about the state of their own nation. I'm relatively sure there are just as many Chinese that are sickened by the treatment of the Tibetan people as there are outside the paper curtain.

Originally by: HalfArse if what ppl have said is true...why dont the chinese have their own server for every mmo?
Every MMO that wants to operate in China officially has to provide a Chinese server run by a Chinese company. That Chinese citizens still turn up on western servers has pretty much the same reason as western Internet users downloading a song, movie or game. They don't feel it's a big law to break (cue replies saying it's a violation, not stealing, etc. Whatever makes you sleep at night).
The other reason for a Chinese only server no-one mentioned yet, it's a single country with more people than the entire western market put together. It makes sense to provide a localized client and support, even if the current market is effectively still smaller due to a greater divide between rich and poor, developed and undeveloped.
