Actually.. I think we are going to see this behaviour on almost every single PI-product in the very near future.
Why? Because right now every PI-noob is looking here and in the market-section for what to focus on pi-wise. Someone in here says: "Oxygen will rise due to demand".. 15 minutes later 75% of industrialist is producing Oxygen at full capacity (also traders do their share). Next week someone cries out for Chiral strucktures.. and production starts all over EVE.
Market manipulation and a overwhelming force of "newcomers" is the driving force. (except maybe when it comes to pos-fuel.. There's manipulation and lazyness ).

Give it a few days, when everyone see's this and/or realizes this electrolytes will tank because everyone will switch to this.
Rinse/wash/repeat/new product. It happens all the time. People are just too impulsive. Everything has its highs and lows, its the ******s to jump on every high hoping to get in on it that make less.

Am I the only one who just produces some random things (2x coolant, mech parts, water and rocket fuel)?
Having to switch to whatever sells the most on a weekly basis costs more then you make.. The time and wrist effect are mental.

High five to all others who simply stockpiled one resource and waited for their moment of glory to come rather than following it 10 steps behind at all time.
It's like a traffic jam. You get past one section and start to pick up speed... 5 seconds later screeching halt again somewhere else. I don't know if its really toxic metals, but eventually it will be.

No it doesn't cost more... Not when there's a 2x-6x difference between the price of items.
Though doesn't mean you need to switch every week.

Market manipulation....
Sounds more like basic market dynamics than market manipulation. People see that X is more profitable than Y so they switch. I'd be curious to see if these fluctuations are getting smaller over time--i.e. the market is working towards a long term equilibrium.

It is market manipulation, someone bought up a lot of Toxic Materials to increase the price drastically. I did the same yesterday with Precious Metals (although not that extreme).
The extreme manipulation attempts tend to not 'stick', for Toxic Materials the lowest sell price is now ~800isk and not 1200isk as it was when the attempt was made.
As a side note, Enriched Uranium is now cheaper then it's component parts. So the huge batch of materials I just had shipped from Jita to my assembly yards are going back to Jita to take advantage of the higher PM/TM prices.

I just make sterile conduits and sell at whatever the current price is. I couldn't be bothered to monitor fluctuations like this. if I did, PI wouldnt be passive income anymore.

I can understand electrolytes, but toxic metals are more abundant and go into a POS fuel you use less of.
Maybe neglect caused a bit of a shortage?

Toxic are also used in manufacturing (constr. blocks) and robotics POS fuel (via consumer electronics). It's definitely one of the most widely used P1s and it's not found on the 2 most common planet types.

Depends on your planets. Some people horde tons of tech 1/2 products when they are cheap, then turn them into profitable ones when the market shifts. In those cases there is no need to destroy or move anything, since there planets are just labs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPSLOCK, BECAUSE SOMETIMES REGULAR FONT JUST, ISN'T, GOOD ENOUGH. |

Nah, I just draw nice pictures on pretty planets. I have stuff extracted from a lava planet, which I may go and retrieve now, or not, depending on how I feel.

And precious metals is needed for 3 POS fuels (enriched uranium, mechanical parts, robotocs) and biocells all the while only being available on 2 planets, one of which is plasma, while toxic metals is in theoretically lower demand and can be made in abundance on ice planets ( and plasma + lave ).
I really don't think construction blocks give toxic metals the edge, market value wise, compared to that.

Really? I thought your point was "people are idiots, and lots of them just wait for others to do their work for them". I mean, really- you should love the lemmings, they're essentially people throwing money at you if you do your job right.

Edited by: Llyandrian on 17/08/2010 11:45:27 The price of toxic metals has crashed back down to it's previous level at Jita and looks set to go lower on the back of a massive increase in supply. However the price remains stubbornly high in the other hubs.
This shows that PI extractors are able to respond to shortages in Jita, at the P1 level and flood the market with fresh supplies within hours & days. But only when highlighted here. Electrolytes & Industrial fibers which offer much better returns remain highly priced.
However there seems to remain a logistical bottleneck distributing these supplies to other hubs, where there are plenty of better priced buys for nearly ever P1 than at Jita.
