Aloha! I'm sure someone has already thought of this idea, but I don't know if anyone suggested it so here I am. Eve at max graphics settings is awesome eye  candy, but I think it would be a next generation step and a huge leap forward in regards to online gaming if Eve was in 3D. What do you guys think???

3D gets mentioned a lot, active 3D usually dismissed straight away. CCP videos tend to have nice 3D elements that suggest nicer things to come in the UI. Ships in trailers have fitting screen pinned to them in space etc. Who knows what a few patches will bring. I know that I'm not going active 3D for a while yet.

Instead of that, how about giving us effects that all other games have, and we used to have... like antialiasing?
Or fixing existing graphical bugs, like how you can't see sentries fire? It's been around for like 3 expansions. Noobies think sentries aren't supposed to have firing animations at all.
This is ridiculous... it makes whiner sad.

I just did some testing on sisi server. Anti aliasing will be available in Incursion up to 16x anti aliasing if everything goes well! As far as 3d, I apologize for not being a bit more detailed to what I meant to say. There are games like Call of duty Black Ops where I believe you can use a 3D glasses as long as your monitor or tv support it. I would like to see that in Eve. I know pc graphic cards have that 3D feature now. Can you imagine fleet combat where missiles and lasers fly pass your head. Not to mention the other visual effects Eve already has to offer.

I'm pretty sure that ccp will not do that cause yeah its a waste of time cause it won't bring them much profit as only a few people own a 3d screen or graphic card

I think what OP is really trying to get at here is that he'd like to see full support added in for nVidia 3dVision (an active stereoscopic 3d viewing system for PC). However, from what I understand about it, just because EVE's engine isn't necessarily certified as fully supporting the tech, doesn't mean that it wouldn't work at all.
Personally, I love the idea of getting myself a big sexy 27" beauty and playing fullscreen 3d EVE on it. :)

About active stereoscopic 3d for PC:
This is the same tech being marketed with new high-end TVs and Blu-Ray movies. It works by displaying separate right- and left-eye images on the screen, alternating every frame. The glasses then shutter each eye so that when the right-eye frame is displayed, only the right eye sees it, and vice-versa.
By doing it this way, each eye sees the image at 60Hz and your mind merges the images into a single image with depth in the same way as happens seeing things normally. The entire shuttering process happens quickly enough as to be undetectable to the human eye, and without the color-shifting that older 3d methods utilized. And to top it all off, it works better too.
If you're feeling skeptical (I did at first myself) go check out the 3d display at your local electronics store, it's really pretty cool. Finally, going 3d on your computer is WAY cheaper than for your TV, and having a really high-end display is worth the cost with or without 3d (imho).
TL;DR
Technically, yes, 3d is 9ofc) gimmick.
Modern 3d is actually pretty cool.

3D support??? I'm still waiting for DX11 support. 3 years ago CCP were going to bring out DX10, I built a new PC because of that. Then, nothing. Every body has been waiting years just to get AA and now its coming. It took CCP long enough just to do DX9C, and that was after DX10 had been out for some time. I would much rather have DX11 over 3D right now, specially since my new Sapphire HD6870 arrives in 12 hours and I want to be able to run it at full throttle.

The first and arguably most notable effect overall would be improved space backgrounds. Make an ultra high quality version (scaleable) so if my PC can run it, it can be breathtaking.
Along the lines of Wormhole space backgrounds, but hell, even a bit more if possible. That would skyrocket my immersion in the game.
Playing on 1600 x 1200 resolution I definitely notice now that the backgrounds can sometimes be stretched and pixelated. |
