Is there a calculator (online or otherwise) that will allow me to select what ship I'm in, what probe launcher/probes I have, what rigs I install, and any implants that affect scan strength? I would like to know the strength I obtain via different configurations.
Or maybe just a basic how-to with the math. I'm not sure if the rigs have stacking penalties, or if the rigs are applied, and then the ships bonus is applied, etc etc.
Any help?

No calculator afaik, though EFT might do it somehow...
Rigs are always applied, no stacking penalty. Doesn't matter on the order.
Basicly.... (totally pulling this out of my ass, but it ~should~ be right)
Base Strength * Skill Bonus * Ship Bonus * Implants * (rig bonus * number of rigs) * Launcher Bonus
Ship Bonus being (Ship Bonus per Level * Level) of course. To be honest, I forget if there's a skill bonus or launcher bonus. If a bonus is 25%, put it in as 1.25, if it's 100%, put it in as 2, etc.

I assume base strength is the strength of the probe used?
Also, is there any hard data/math that links scan strength to the ease of finding things? Like, you need a scan strength of at least blah blah to find WHs, or you need a scan strength of at least blah blah to find WHs when range is set to 8AU (thus, faster)?

I'd say you can find pretty much any wormhole with crappy skills, a ship without bonuses and rigs, and with normal probes. They aren't that hard to find, at least not in high sec. Maybe the higher level wormholes are harder to find, I don't know.

Yea, base strength would be the strength listed on the probe. Also, once you actually have the ship fitted and probes loaded, go into fitting and show info on the probes you have loaded and it'll give you the bonused strength.
Hard math? Not that I know of. However, I assume CCP's game is (mostly) working correctly, and I can tell you it's a lot faster to find things in my rigged cov ops than on a totally unbonused ship. However, you almost always will be ABLE to find something with unbonused probes, it just might take a bit longer than it should. (I saw almost always because I hear class 6 wormholes are a *****)

That's basically how it works in EFT as well. Setup your ship and skills and then show info on charges in your launcher. The stats will reflect all fittings and implants. This window doesn't auto update as you change the ship either, so you can leave it open, change things around, and then open a 2nd one and compare all of the stats.

There is THIS which I have used in the past.
I'll be honest I used it pre deep space probe nerf but I guess it got updated since then.
If you don't have a program that can read excel spreadsheets you can download it and upload to google docs to play about with.
I hope this helps you.

Just have a rigged covert ops with a sisters probe launcher and sisters probes in your carrier and it never matters.
