I really like Guild Wars ( I hate WOW ), Guild Wars 2 is looking to be really awesome. Its going to be also free to play and it looks like there doing everything I love about MMO's and avoiding everything I hate about MMO's. In Guild Wars they never went heavy on the micro transactions stuff either or making it so you had to buy anything, it didn't effect gameplay too much so buying was optional.
Anyway here is there latest video links and info. Looks great.

It looks very impressive. Also the game designers explicitly said that grind is boring and they want players to have fun. Hopefully this will be what Age of Coanan was not.

I was a *huge* fan of the first game and I am eagerly awaiting the sequel. I don't know if I'll have time to play both Guild Wars 2 and Eve, I'll probably have to choose. Otherwise I'll be spending 8 hours a day gaming between the two .

GW was a great MMO, good story and not much grind. I've seen the trailers for the second game and I'm really looking forward to trying it out.

Yeah I am a fan of the original too, played it from release but stopped a couple years ago. GW2 looks like it's going to be fricken awesome lol. They seem to be improving on a lot of the original game which is great. Movement seems like its going to be a lot better now and I am glad they are going for a persistent world this time, oh and as usual the visuals are stunning. Personally I still believe that it's one of the better balanced MMOs out there PvP wise (well as balanced as you can get in an MMO). Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Fixed that for ya.
GW is about as much of an MMO as Diablo is, I guess slightly more since the 3D chat rooms that they call "cities" are persistent, although sharded. I only feel compelled to correct you since you seem to think that this will easily transition into the MMO world. Balancing an arena =/= Balancing an MMO.
p.s. I loved GW, especially the HOH before the guild vs guild stuff got popular.

I know technically the developers labeled it a CORPG (special snowflake syndrome?) but it still fits into the MMO framework imo. If anything the CORPG label is more like a sub genre of MMO. Some of the awards Anet has received over the years have even been MMO related awards. I don't even think there is any other game labeled a CORPG apart from GW, not that I know of at least or one that is on the same competitive level as a comparison.
So ...I can't really say it's the best balanced PvP CORPG out there because it really is the only one worth mentioning hence why it's lumped into the MMO category with all the rest.
With regards to your opinion of that and why that is the reason it is easier to balance (PvP / PvE content) than its MMO brethren I understand and can agree somewhat. But I don't believe that is the only reason Guild Wars PvP is more balance. The skill and combat system is what defines it and sets it apart really. The myriad of skill and abilities you get to chose from (albeit some restricted) and the limitation of the 8 slot build setup keeps things fresh and on a level playing field regardless of it being for PvE or PvP content imo. Basically you have so many more options to keep things balanced when it comes to PvP skills and competitive play. Hmm when you think about it even some of the high end mobs in the PvE content act and work like a PvP team, a very unskilled one at that but none-the-less lol.

I don't know, even though it is the first of it's kind I still think it deserves it's own genre. I mean, everything is sharded, nothing really happens in the persistent parts of the game world. If you don't call this a CORPG then there's no real reason to call an MMORPG anything more than an online RPG.
It's almost as if you took the lobby of any multiplayer game, turned it into a 3D world which you can walk around in and pick your weapons and what-not, and then called it an MMOX(FPS, RPG, MMOGuitarHero, whatever).
It's basically missing the "massively" part of MMORPG. I can meet you half way and call it an MORPG if you want me to.

Very true, the depth of the system certainly helped in it's own way. Some of the builds we used to dominate HoH with when we first started had been completely phased out not long after. I imagine it'd be a very interesting thing to dig deep and truly see how the builds for the competitive aspect of the game developed over time. The PvE? I don't know, I solo farmed the Underworld on one of those invincible monks to get phat lewts/cash, that was about the extent of my PvE experience in GW.
Well, I also played through the storyline of the original with that *** prince who wouldn't stop being annoying. And burned through half of Factions on an Assassin, which was awesome because Factions was such a cake walk and I felt mighty.

For those that didn't realise or didn't bother to read the blogs's, Guildwars 2 will have a persistent world, with day and night aswell as the guild wars 1 style dungeons and features so you get the best of both worlds. The graphics are amazing especially the fighting and skills effects, some of the content has never been done before and there is no monthly fee's.
The graphics in Guild Wars one made wow look like disneyland, in Guild wars 2 they make wow look like ping pong. I think that GW2 is going to be the end of wow, the game designers are serious about avoiding grind and getting back to what MMO's should be about. The players.

Getting back? Like all those MMOs before WoW were? Oh wait...
Sorry but your post reeks of fanboy, you even pulled out the "omggrafix" argument. The fact that it's F2P should be enough to draw in all those runescape kiddies who've been waiting for a proper 3D game for a decade now, so I don't doubt that GW2 will pull in a large crowd. But "end" WoW? Naw, WoW will end itself, it has an expansion or two left after this next one but it can't go on forever. The only thing that will end WoW is a game like WoW, one which feels "new" to the carrot chasers that infest this genre, it certainly won't be a game that is heavily story based unless their end game is as much of a gear grind as WoW's.

All of the videos and interviews and things I saw really spoke to me as a tired MMOer in the mood for something newish.
If they live up to what they've been promising somewhat, this might be pretty fun. The no subscription fee model is pretty fantastic, if the game is even halfway decent.
Some of us start getting that weird "guilt" when paying for multiple mmo subscriptions.. but I think that is usually because we're not satisfied with the game, as opposed to the fact that we're paying money for something.
The classes look fun to play (what they've shown so far anyway), and I like how they've largely addressed most of my concerns/frustrations with MMOs in general.
I hope this turns out as expected.
Then, if it does, I hope they take the same team and model, and license mad max and make a mad max mmo. I've wanted one of these for years. And no, Fallen Earth is nothing like what i'm talking about, (and it's ****e). Please don't suggest it :)

Heh you're pretty chuffed about GW2 aren't ya mate. It does look very good though and it's great to see the actual game play in motion finally. Always hard to tell from videos but the game play looks pretty fluid which is definitely something I look for when it comes to playing these types of games. Nothing worse than trying to play competitively with clunky controls. (EVE is a game that can get away with being clunky.)
GW2 definitely looks like it can continue to build a decent community based on the success of the original game. If they actually pull all this stuff off they are boasting about on this one they should have a pretty solid position in the market. I never like to say a game is a WoW killer as that just dooms them to fail lol. I do have a good feeling about Anet pulling this one off well though.
btw the Charr running on all fours is sweet.

The only thing that I see giving WoW it's first honest "run for it's money" is the star wars game. It's the first serious MMO with a lot of buzz coming along with a profitable franchise that's even bigger than the one WoW is based off of. Regardless of one's pre-emptive opinions regarding SWTOR, there is no denying the marketing strength of it's franchise. If they throw hard dollars at mainstream marketing like Blizzard has... it WILL be massive.

The problem for SWTOR is, that fewer people play scifi than fantasy, they are catering to the same players as WoW and many of those WoW players are heavily invested in WoW. This will mean, that SWTOR won't be as big as WoW, It will have tough direct competition for it's playerbase and many of those players have deep roots in the competing product. The SW franchise is big and will attract many players, but for most people it is still primarily familiar as a movie franchise and having SW games isn't anything new. Most SW fans won't play it and even most SW gamer might not play it. Console gamers and people not interested in themepark MMOs or MMOs in general certainly won't. Warcraft on the other hand was a popular PC franchise from the start.
This means that many will not migrate for a game that is so similar, unless it is a signifact improvement over WoW. So far a strong voiced storyline is the only big advantage SWTOR has over WoW. There might be more advantages in the future, but as things currently stand, I'm sceptical about how big SWTOR can really become. Big compared to EVE certainly, but I see the enthusiasm SWTOR initially sparked is already beginning to lessen as more details about the game is being released. More and more people are realizing it won't be the game they were hoping for. What I suspect will happen is, that it will have a huge initial release, but people will increasingly lose interest and migrate to other games after they have played through the storyline(s) a few times. It will stay relatively big, but still well in the shadow of WoW.

Anyway, it's based on an impeccable game franchise and an even bigger movie/mixed media franchise.

They've greatly enhanced the graphics in the last expansion.
Complete engine overhaul/"upgrade" wouldn't serve any useful purpose, as it already perfectly handles the 'look' they intently designed for. They wouldn't want to edge out any lower performance computers that are just on the edge of acceptable, either, given the large subscriber base. When I was still playing, I had a pretty amazing machine and it still choked up during certain encounters and locations. Any higher requirements and you'd lose a lot of people for no reason.

Because polished features don't sell as well as new content. True story.
MMO gamers love taking it up the ass, the WoW variety more so than all the others.
