I'm wondering exactly how to go about killing a POS? Is there a guide somewhere? What kind of ships would be needed? How much time is needed?
I'm assuming you would need to take out the guns first? We see "Small Artillery Battery". 12-18 of them. How far do they shoot, how hard can they hit, how much hp do they have? Next, we see this huge.. bubble like thing. It looks like a warp disrupter bubble, but I don't know if it is. Is it some type of forcefield?
If anyone could just give us some information on what these POS's consist of, and how one would kill them-- We would really love it :) |

This comes across as a troll but just in case someone is actually wondering ...
Alexis Prey wrote:I'm wondering exactly how to go about killing a POS? Is there a guide somewhere? What kind of ships would be needed?
There's possibly a guide somewhere, but Battleships and above are common. Caps are good. We took the Fade moons in Stealth Bombers (shoot, cloak up if owners appear in numbers/serious ****, get out and wait until owners are bored of watching space junk, go back to shoot tower - rinse/repeat)
Alexis Prey wrote:How much time is needed?
A lot, depending on what ships you use. Prepared to be bored. Get caps, it'll be less painful. Stronted towers go into reinforcement as well, so you'll need to be back to shoot at the effing thing again. And if you miss the timer, or you are driven off the owners can repair the tower back up and you have to start all over again (hi PL!! )
Alexis Prey wrote:I'm assuming you would need to take out the guns first?
Preferably, or get lots of logistics.

No idea, cba to check it should be out there ...

That the troll warning, and a force field yes. It's what's protecting what's inside the POS from you ebil beings on the outside. |

You bounce off and the guns murder you. The medium POS guns are equivalent to regular large (battleship) guns. Not much of a threat to sub battleships or capitals.
POSes take hours to shoot down without capital ships. Especially dickstars, if you run into a dickstar, it's just not worth it unless you have a huge capital fleet. |

And another worthless post by a 'wannabe' PvP pilot.
*maybe use your pilgrim to cov cyno your 3 other cannonfodder buddies in like you were intended too.*
btw, how is the ransoming of indy 4 systems going, never heard anything about it.
my suggestion, go back to the lame WoW or start to learn stuff, not asking on forums and then respond like you do on usefull advice.

Good luck with your 5 member corp with all new players in it
I'm expecting a good bunch of red KM posts. |

I think you misunderstand me. I don't ransom as if it was a living. My corp has spent about a week now in Red Alliance territory, and the entire time we've lost only 1 ship. During that time we haven't made any money. Then again though, I made 3b isk yesterday creating websites at the same time I was camping red alliance. That's why I do it. I can easily AFK cloaked, and do work while I pirate who ever I'm after :) It's for fun. Perhaps you should learn how to have fun instead of having such a chip on your shoulder :P |

As Chal0ner pointed out POSes can be tough nuts to crack. A popular technique for people wanting to bash one with sub capital ships is to use lots of lasers and drones. Stealth bombers are also popular for their DPS and cloaking abilities but they will be shredded by POS guns, which if I'm not mistaken have the range of insanely high proportions, aka mostly on grid. If you can mount a capital fleet that is the way to go for speed but the risk factor of losing expensive ships goes way up!
Just keep in mind that when you fire that first volley on the POS or it's guns the owners are alerted with an EVE Mail and can mount a rescue at any time.

If anyone could just give us some information on what these POS's consist of, and how one would kill them-- We would really love it :)
Some basic infos: IF the POS is a deathstar, so basically has got loads aof guns, ECM, WEBS, SCRAMS and energy neuts on it, it's gonna be more then hard to impossible to take it out without capitals. An Important part is also if the holding corp has got POS gunners (Players who can take control over the POS guns) If they have got like 3 POS gunners, thats about 10 - 15 guns that can primary and switch targets directed. Also it's important how the guns are spread around the POS, it's easier to take one out where the guns are all at one spot, if they're all around the POS it's gonna be hard -> So: If the POS has guns all spread around it, you have to go to one side, kill the stuff there, warp off, someone who is scrammed will stay behind and get killed, warp to another side, rinse repeat.
You'll need loads of Logistics, if the POS has got enough ECM on it and POS gunners, you're logis are going to have a really hard time, keeping anything alive.
Also if the POS has got Strontium in it, you will take the POS shields down to 25% and then you have to wait 1 - 24 hrs (depends on the amount of Strontium) until you can finish it of. IF you have got bad luck and someone cares, they'll try to rep up the MODS in this time and you'll have to start from scratch.
to the point of Time: It took us 5 hrs wo take down a Medium Faction POS out with 9 stealth bombers (no defense)
TLDR: POS takedown is not woth it until you know what's in it to loot later on, or if it has got bad defenses, so you can teach someone a lesson. ------------------------------w00t w00t rapetrain------------------------------ |

Few pointers on info people have previously given.
I believe the maximum stront timer is 1 day 16 hours (it might be 17). As far as I know, this can increase if the POS owner also holds sovereignty in the system.
Time to kill depends on your dps and the size of the POS, and which hardeners it has deployed and online.
It is worthy of note that whichever ships you choose to try and blow up the POS, it needs to be able to hit at least as far (or further) than the POS's forcefield radius (showinfo on the POS for this info). Normal drones (not sentries) will never be able to engage the tower unless the forcefield is offline.
Additionally, you will need to be at war with the corporation / alliance owning the tower before you can hit it (if it's in High sec). If it's in Low Sec you can hit it anyway, but you will be flagged as a criminal for at least 15 minutes and lose security status (unless it shoots you first). |

An offline control tower (no force field) is much easier to deal with, and can even be done solo with a lot of time. |

Capital ships far away + shuttles + delegate fighters = incapped guns.
Just sayin... Sometimes the only difference between a budding genius and a blooming idiot is where they chose to take a stand. |
