I dont know what anyone else thinks or if its been mentioned before !
but i would like to see arenas entered into the game !
an arena would be a complex where fighters could go and duel without the risk of being ganked, podded or lose security status !
these arenas could take on various roles, single events and gang warfare etc.
spectators would be allowed but only in shuttles !
hey why not go mad and introduce an isk betting system ! and a league of fighters ?
just a suggestion ! please post you opinions here

You shouldnt dismiss it so quickly.
A lot of us would think this is a great idea.. it would allow the gamers without a lot of time to build up tons of cash to have a little friendly pvp.
It would also be useful for those like me who like to occasionally compete with other players but dont want to destroy or damage their ships, costing them money, time and usually upsetting them.
Not to mention it would make it easier to find others looking to fight without roaming all over 0.0 space looking for people that are solo, not mining and wont take it personally. |

I remember back in beta I had always thought it would be cool to have some organized prizefights for serious gamblers ingame. Hey we were all floating around in newb ships on a server that was down more often than it was up and pencilling bug reports every 15 minutes or so.
I thought it would be cool to have a sort of arena like you'd find in Tachyon:The Fringe. Now that wasn't an utterly exceptional game, but it was fun the first time you played through it and it had Bruce Campell doing voice overs which made the game worth it for its kitsch value.
Anyway, the game organizer would own the structure (and the sentries) and everyone would crowd around to watch the opponents face off while placing and taking bets. It kinda depended on the institution how bets were made - and kept for that matter. Gamblers tend to go by building a personal history with one another.
Next, the opponents square off. It could be solo fights, unmatched fights or group fights. Could be hirees, could be bad blood.. doesn't matter. Could be no eye-gouging or no podding or a little bloodier. (Well frozen blood.)
The sentries are only designed to fire on whomever the owner orders them to, either dorks shooting at the arena, or guests that don't have a prearranged permission to fire at one another or people that fail to pay their debts and don't leave quick enough.
Now you'd probably run into the problem of their being too many arenas and too few spectators, so you need to "restrict the market" if you know what I'm sayin. It's a good reason for a war.. but then again, you'd probably be shooting at your fellow customers. Competition with highligh acts might be hard cause afterall, you need to put on alot of performances in a day yah?
Maybe for each npc or player group held territory, would be owners can bid on a permit to build The arena in each nation. (There's still a lot of nations in eve). The owner isn't scot free for being the highest bidder of course. A rival can make it even more expensive for him by raiding his enterprise and demolishing his pride and joy a few times.. sentries are only so effective afterall and the world is full of persistent devotees of vapor. Anyway, that's how I see gambling in EVE.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound dismissive, I was having a moment...
I actually agree with you. I think it would be a great idea, and a logical extension of complexes (which are PvE) to a PvP equivelant.
It just struck me at the time of those boring (to me, anyway) FPS like Q3 and UT where you just run around and shoot things.
But I know I'm in the minority, and that there would be a lot of support for this idea.

I think you donŠt need special ingame mechanisms for the betting. BIG for example showed, that corps can get the thrust of its customers and make BIG games I like the idea, that shuttles are allowed as spectators, but podding should be punished by sentry guns or police.
+++ Trade...good for you, good for me +++ |

I wouldn't know, I never played it. I just want to gamble on something interesting, and I want players to have the run of it, and I see alot of technicalities that need to be in place for people to adopt it in a consistent manner. People are kindof stupid that way.

The trouble with a crowd of spectator shuttles is that you have to have a special deadspace launcher and all that. I think that arenas should be able to exist in both 0.0 and in empire for the very rich. The game can only allow so many arenas to exist at one time though or they won't draw crowds. If everyone is in shuttles they can't fight back very easilly against the first genius to show up with a +10km smartbomb or a posse.
A brawl every now and then is ok. As players get used to the institution, they will find their own way to deal with intrusion (and to get the edge). This is gambling we're talking about afterall, not getting tickets for the prize pie at the local carnival.
