Too easy.
Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei, the choral version of his Adagio for Strings, performed by Santa Barbara's Quire of Voyces.
It is played in Homeworld when you return after the test flight and your planet has been annihalated.
"No one's left. Everything's gone.n++ Kharak is burning."
Adagio for Strings has been used many times, including in the film Platoon. FIRE FRIENDSHIP TORPEDOES ! Louis's epic skill guide v1.1 |

Can't remember but there was an FPS with a track made by a Heavy Metal Band... was it Duke Nukem? with a song made by Megadeth? "This is the Ninja. He will scan you down; he will salvage your wrecks and there shall be no aggro" ~ The Story of the Ninja |

"Rith Essa" by Robin Beanland, from the game "Jet Force Gemini" on the N64.
LINK
So evocative and haunting, with a gentle sprinkling of John Williams.
By the way, it took a while to find that link, and I'd be on the lookout for spurious pop-ups that may occur from clicking the link - you have been warned!

I cant pick just one piece of game music. I spent the first few years of my gaming life playing the hell out of Phantasy Star 1-4, and Shining Force 1-2, they both had some memorable little tunes.
But my mind was never really blown until the PlayStation hit the market and I played Final Fantasy 7, pretty much every single piece of music from the game set the tone and mood perfectly for me. Epic game with an epic sound track. |

I love all those vocals from Dragon Age, not counting hat rock song in the ED credits.
My favorite song has to be Terra's Theme(main map theme) from Final Fantasy VI in all of it's symphonic renditions. It has a galloping rhythm much like an old western movie, yet is so grand. |

this absolutely this , i still think it is the best use of music ever in a pc game , it lingers on thru out the whole game it is one of the things that made Homeworld such a great game even today tho it is starting to show its age I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... I feel forced to add that the soundtrack of Sword and Sworcery blew me away. Some moments in that game were just Portal-esque in epicness.
