Any ideas on how to fix? Searching online reveals nothing. Unable to sign on..oh but can the website...just not the game

It sometimes takes awhile for the automatic download to kick in. I currently am having the same problem and have had it the last few patches. Usually, I just leave for work and 10 hours later I log on and it is working again.
Otherwise you can try the download form the web page here.
EDIT: Or it is just not up yet.

new player so I do not know some of the quick fix methods, any advice would be greatly appreciated

This means they have patched the server but haven't released a client patch so they have an opportunity to test the server themselves before allowing users to log in again.

The patch isn't even out yet, and the server isn't scheduled to be up for another 40 minutes. Of course, it'll be longer than that. Go away troll.

no indications of an upcoming patch, was not aware, and typically on all the forums dealing with technical issues, CCP is always responding to give updates...guess this is beyond their technical skill level, is there a skill book for that?
