Oh my!
Also, that guide was borderline useless in its current state.

Are you flying a PvP ship?
If yes, fit a MWD.
If no, fit an AB.
There, question answered. -----------

I've been playing City of Heroes since beta and I still encounter surprises, I wasn't aware that EVE was so much simpler that it can be learned in two years.

I stopped playing around three years ago. Is it any better now? Have you tried Champions Online yet?
Sorry, OP to derail your thread but it was boring anyway!

I fit an MWD to my frigate then another frigate with an AB dictated range and I died :( your advice is horrible :(

By the time you're flying with a RR HAC gang, you know enough about the game that you don't need "fitting for newbies".
Until that point, "always fit a MWD" is a good enough rule. -----------

The real rules:
Is your frigate a fast tackle? Fit a MWD Is your frigate actually meant to solo or kill ****? Fit a AB
The previous rules apply to bigger ships.

AB only in 0.0 is mostly suicide in a frigate tho, so there are no rule without exception.
as for OP, I clicked your mwd or ab section and it was empty? overall otherwise the blog looks useful for newbies (ignore intigos bitterness, he used up all his happy 2 days ago helping some guy out)

Those are pretty common sense rules most newer players would do well to learn.
I've been playing for (goes and checks) six and a half years now (really?) and I learn something new pretty regularly.
That said, there does come a point where everything just 'clicks' and you know instinctively how to fit and fly your ships. It's not one set thing but a massive combination of knowing the ships, the modules, all possible interactions of combination of modules and how they actually work against OTHER ships of differing combinations of modules.
As for the 'should I fit a MWD' that's a question that will always cause trouble. Personally, I always fit one where possible since my play style is heavily based on skirmishing. If you fly solo you should automatically be thinking 'skirmish' and successful solo pilots recognise the two most important factors of MOST of their fits are mobility and firepower.
If you control the range of an engagement and maintain superior manoeuvrability you cannot lose. If you have enough firepower to destroy your opponent you stand a chance of winning. Combining these two makes you, on average, able to pick and destroy your targets while losing very little.
I rarely, if ever, fit an AB without it being part of a dual-prop setup except on Sisi (which is generally a poor approximation of real combat situations, I use it to test for specifics rather than generalities).
The real secret to fitting well is to figure out those people who have lots of success and then beg, borrow or steal THEIR setups and discover what it is about them that makes it work so well.
A very, very high proportion of my setups are blatantly stolen from others (often modified slightly, but still playing to the strengths of the original) and I suspect that for most seasoned pvp pilots the same is true. It takes a very special mind to create entirely new setups that prove successful enough to be copied and even the best are only responsible for a few each.
Every corp or alliance has (in my experience) at least one guy who is just really, really good at fitting his ships (for whatever your corps function is). Find that guy and test his fits to destruction. Learn by doing. Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

Now the problem becomes: MWDs can be turned off by scramblers. A lot of interceptor pilots tend to fit both in order to dictate range in scrambler range (<8000m). A web, while an excellent tackle module, will not be enough on its own, which is where the scrambler comes into play. It's also extremely efficient on your cap (t1 frigs cannot run a disruptor for long, but can run a scrambler almost indefinitely).
Here's a scenerio: You're fighting a T1 frigate with your own T1 frigate. You have MWD, he has AB. You both have scramblers and webs. You won't be able to dictate range because your MWD will not function while scrambled and you'll be slower when webbed than the AB fit (unless the pilot is a total idiot). However, against larger ships that often fit disruptors and no web (non-blaster cruisers and HACs, for example), a MWD can mean life or death.
Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Some of it depends on your piloting skill, too. Experiment and get blown up a lot. On another note, I also have an annoying sig. |

I once had both on my AF. It gave the lols to red when he scrambled me and i was still going fast under a web. He did yell something about cheating and then I told him I have both...then he ran. Of course he stole the curve and with no point... bye bye. Stop whining. |
