Today I had a scareware popup, the usual fake antivirus thing, suspect a dodgy site from stumbleupon.
Using malwarebytes I removed the damn thing.
Firefox was acting strangely, it seems to have changed it's settings to run through a proxy server, easily changed back to direct access no sweat.
Started eve and noticed the right hand pane, normally eve news and stuff on the login page was just an error "ULR Error"
Could the soddin scareware have changed eve in some way? perhaps to point that part of the login screen to a proxy?
Any help would be appreciated as downloading the client again would take some time on my crappy 1mb line.

check your hosts file,
also check what changed in the windows components that eve uses for its browser, and fix that.
oh and get linux. -

Checked the obvious, can't find anything odd.
I have linux, but due to various problems with running 2 clients, plus any small change in eve means an hour or so of fiddling about, plus the fact I use Autocad means Windoze is the OS I use atm
Thanks or the suggestions tho :)

Check your IE / System http-proxy setting, I'm betting that scareware changed it too. And since A LOT of software just ask the OS "Hey dude, what yer proxy?!" you get errors if it's something else than expected.

Edited by: Rawr Cristina on 22/08/2010 22:38:07 had this on my PC a few weeks ago, don't have the slightest idea how it got there, I'm the only person to use this PC or change router settings + was running latest version of FF, but then bam - out of the blue this scareware installs itself on my pc while I'm playing starcraft and since it won't even let me browse the web. Had to use another PC to look for removal instructions on how to get rid of it
anyway it changed my proxy settings like with you, I had to actually open IE and disable it there as well as take some stuff out the registry

Thanks for that,
Ran Internet Exploder and sure enough it had changed to use a proxy, fixed that and Eve works fine :)
