Good Morning,
I'm just trying to make sure I understand the difference between Buy Orders, vs just buying an item and how they work.
If I place a Buy Order. (Let's saying 200 oranges, and 50 isk a piece.) It me saying "I want to buy 200 oranges, first come first serve!" and anyone can sell me oranges individually or all at once until I have a total of 200, right?
By default I can only do that at the solar system I'm at. But Procurement lets my place these buy orders at other stations (specific ones, or all within range?) based on its rank.
So, if I understand this correctly, if I want to buy an item. (Not through a buy order, but one time just want to go out and buy a ship, or something) I'm only going to see options from NPC sellers or PC players that have Sell Orders up in my system?
Are there any skills I can train to see market prices outside of my Region?
On a side note, I heard that "Jita" is kind of trade hub. (or *the* trade hub, as it were) Does that mean prices there tend to be cheaper over all, or higher for goods?

You can see any sell or by order in your region that was locally setup in any station in the region you are in. If some player setup a sell or buy order remotely, it depends on the skills of the orderer. (I herein declare "orderer" to be an english word. :)
Jita is the main trade hub and you will see better prices as a buyer. Turnover is much better for sellers (usually). If it makes sense for you to go there depends on the ISK you would have made in the time you have to spend to travel there.
The Jita-Amarr-pipe is further the most likely area to get suicided in. This might influence the attractivness of a deal too.

Thank you.
Is there any website, or tool I can use to calculate the distance (or time) between my current system and Jita, based on my ship's speed?

1 minute / jump while staring at the screen 2 minutes / jump while on AP 3 minutes / jump while staring at a freighter

What do you mean by AP?
And freighters take longer to jump than other ships?

AP means Auto Pilot (Game automatically warps you in at 15Km by deafault and you have to slow boat to the gate before jumping)
Different ships warp at different speeds, Most T1 warp at 3AU's T2 warp at between 6-12AU's, Freighters warp at 0.7AU's (From memory)
The above figures are purely rough estimates as there are skills/mods that can affect these. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fear accompanies the possibility of death. Calm shepherds its certainty. - Ka D'Argo |

Correct. You can also set a minimum quantity on that same popup. That way you only accept sales of say 50 or more at a time. Also, keep an eye on the "range" field on that popup. That sets how far away a seller can be from the station and sell you an item. If set to "Region" you can find yourself chasing down individual oranges all over the region. I would recommend leaving it at "station" or "system" until you're sure of your intentions.

You'll see all buy orders (NPC and PC) within the area defined by the "range filter" in the upper left corner of the market screen. Buyers highlighted in green are within range of you for instant sale. If you sell immediately (instead of setting a sell order) you will sell to the highest price highlighted in green. If that price is unsatisfactory, you can set a sell order by clicking on the "advanced" button on the "sell item" screen.

nope. Some people setup alts in trade hubs to check prices. Also, you can join the "price_check" channel in game and get prices from other players.
Hopefully that's helpful (and correct).

Actually everything is bought and sold via buy/sell orders. It is just that the duration, price, and visibility can be filled-in for you by default.
Example: right-click sell an item = create a sell order with duration "immediate" for the current highest price with station visibility.
This is probably why everyone can create 1 sell order.
Jita in The Forge region (Caldari space) is the place to go for low buy prices and high volume sales. It is a horrible place to sell if you want a high amount of profit, or don't want to constantly adjust your prices. One great thing about Jita is that if it can be sold in hisec, you can find it there. Do make sure to completely ignore local though; nothing there but spams and scams.

Grismar's Navigator does this, but some of the gates are out of date.

Another option for obtaining a good idea of market sell/buy order prices in all Regions is via a specialised market web site such as;
EVE Central (my favourite)
or
Eve Metrics
The data is generally sufficient for most purposes although it may be outdated. If an accurate current price is required use a market alt as suggested.
