Edited by: Zero shadow1 on 23/08/2010 23:29:20 Ive been thinking that the warp in and out of ships needs some new tweaks.... Seeing other ships just turn ,slight stop and warp out looks boring and dated ,i would suggest maybe tracer lines from the thrusters on warp in/out events and maybe some audio to boot.
Example A This would be a amazing effect to watch ,for me anyways Jita gates would be like a machine gun

More than just the effect, this would get rid of the tedious speed up/slow down process of warping which often takes more time than traveling across an entire system. To shoot off at near maximum speed right from teh get-go would be *awesome*.

What you do, is make the warp effect like that insta warp, but before you warp you need to align and then charge up your engines for a few seconds, problem solved. (note i am not a pirate, i just like to fix problems and make everyone happy :) )

I wonder what the photonic equivalent of a sonic boom is?
Perhaps as ships arrive on the grid there would be a bright flash of Cherenkov blue, which then surrounds the ship like St Elmo's Fire for a few seconds. Perhaps AURA/NEOCOM could provide a nice "POP" sound from the incoming ship's arrival point. The persistent glow wouldn't necessarily be technically correct, but it would help quickly spot the new arrival if one is relying on visual cues.
And it would be awesome.

Second... something like that would be very nice. I don't like the idea of changing the warping mechanic but certainly some "eye candy" would be nice.
As far as visuals go I'd like to see something like the "Hayabusa" Space Probe reentry.

The little pause in engine exhaust is too small to notice. You'd definitely want to know for sure the exact moment you can say "crap, he got away."

Yeh, something like the star trek warp effect for the warp, where the ship has to align and charge its engines for say like a random number between 10-15 seconds, then something like a flash of light to show the ship exiting warp, and mabye a skill the makes your warp drive charge faster by 1 or 2 seconds each level. I would love to see an overhaul like this to warp, it would make the game so much better on those long trips

get grid of the warp speed up asap cause it very much penalizes ships with fast warp speed as they in normal systems arrive before they are at maximum speed ...ceptors and cov ops at least also a warp entrance flash and sound would be cool actually I also would like a different warp effect that doesn't looks so much like normal flight =/

Yeah, something like that, except without the huge tail and bits falling off (no, not even when flying a Minmatar ship).

new class of special warp ship ?
perhaps a special colour twist or the ability to change direction - destination once mid warp
downside could be a speical one minute imbolisiation once landed to allow scanning

The warp system shouldn't be changed in my opinion, only the visual effects.
like for example when your in warp now u can see trough the warp tunnel, this should be a real tunnel where u can only see the warp effect.
this will resolve the unrealism of actually warping trough planets cause u will only see the warp tunnel.
every new player in this game goes like wtf i just warped through a planet.
The current way u enter into warp ( aligning/speeding up / and then warp) shouldn't change what should change as some others mentioned is that you are at max warp speed from the start that you enter warp until the point you exit warp (no speed up / slow down)
Some special visual effects of entering / exiting warp would be nice aswell.
There are some neat warp effects in the series of stargate universe. Pod Or Be Podded.. |

no speed up/slow down or a greatly reduced speed up/slow down in warp would make things cooler and more intense
it might even reduce server calls because it no longer has to calculate your speed while accelerating or decelerating in warp (maybe??)

While we are on the topic of warp effects, why cant we get the old wormhole jump effect back for cap ships? I joined eve after it was taken away but i have seen videos of it and i don't get why CCP removed it.

Fleet warp = Machine Gun
Ill take some of this

and mix in some of this and suddenly travel in eve is looking good.

Agreed (as in other threads)that the appearance of warping could use a change. Please make it appear as in the Empyrean Age trailer, about 1:30 in (can't be arsed to link it). Not the biggest fan of the smeary ST style warp, but not a huge deal. From the warping ship's POV, I wish they'd bring back the big BOOM when you enter warp. IMO entering warp should be a somewhat violent and dramatic experience. Having said all this, with all the issues in the game now, I imagine this would be a very low priority feature.

I'd like to see something more akin to Stargate and Babylon 5.
Where the ship generates a portal, then accelerates into it, and vanishes.
Then the travel for the ship is opaque, so we don't watch ourselves passing through planets and stations and crap.
And then a portal forms and we emerge at the other end.
The effects could be synchronized, so gang warps emerge from the same portal. |

Cool to read others perspectives on the idea. This suggestion was never to change the warp mechanism ,just to change the GFX side of warp entry/re-entry.
I think a audio boom would be nice ,maybe pitched to suit ship mass ,higher pitch for frigates and a shoelace shaking boom for freighter or capital class ships plus they could have a charge up sound due to the allignment times being longer.
Heres another treky vid i found which demonstrates the sound difference for the ship types. Example:Video link

Dear CCP,
I support this suggestion and also though about that, but I prefer the warpin/out effect like in the Asgard Hyperdrive in Stargate Atlantis where also the ship is somewhat warped and then left into hyperchannel.
You should always feel that WARP is an fielddrive and not a normal high speed travel which isnŠt possible even theoretically at the current stand of science.
