I am interested in running some high sec missions. For some of them I would like to use the afk or semi afk domi. I understand you tank it to perma run your reppers get the aggro and set drones to aggressive and then go do something else.
However. What if someone comes in and takes your loot? Will your drones that are set to aggressive start attacking him? If so does this not mean he and his corp can attack you?
Any info on this is appreciated. -Cearain

yes and I guess this is a pretty good way to get yourself ganked by high-sec pirates don't do it unless you want to risk being ganked

Do NOT set your drones to aggressive when AFK.
Anyway, setting your drones aggressive will likely spoil trigger mechanics, and you will have a lot of full room aggro while eating your dinner in the kitchen.
That saying, drones+afk=gankers paradise

That's the point, you aggro the whole room and tank it. The drones eat the rats. I mean that's the very definition of afk missionin :D Stop whining. |

They won't. Which is a shame, really.

Edited by: Cearain on 26/08/2010 13:33:29 Seems like a pretty even split of opinion. I had heard the person must shoot at you before the drones will attack. Those who say that: are you sure they don't have to simply target you for your drones to attack?
edit one more question: If I use sentry drones and I move my dominix up closer to where the spawn come from will my domi likely be targeted by new spawns instead of my drones? Are there any tips to make sure my domi gets the aggro and not my drones? -Cearain

Oh for Pete's sake, if it were as simple as all that, don't you think our killboards would be littered w/ Domis? They're not for those who're interested.
You'll most likely be fine in your AFK-ness, just don't make yourself a target which means, all T1 & T2 and no faction or deadspace stuff. We can tell when you're an AFK Domi and when you're not (pretty much). Quite honestly, most Domis go so slow that they bore ninjas away from that deadspace and off to find something more interesting. I don't know, maybe something to do to make some ISK while you watch football or what have you.
So yeah, your drones shouldn't get you into any trouble.

No, drones won't attack them unless they attack you.
Edit: Also to clarify the mechanics around looting, if someone loots you and the rest of your corp gain the right to attack them. If you attack them their corp does not gain rights to attack you though they can rep their corp member. You will gain rights to attack any neutral repairer should you wish to exercise them.
It used to be that aggressive drones attacked "reds". Unless they changed it they still do.

Drones won't even attack mission rats who target you until they actually shoot at you. Targetting does not cause drone agression in PvP or PvE.

I don't think there is anyway of making your Dominix get agro above the drones. In generally if you're going to be afk missioning I'd recommend only doing it in missions without extra spawns, I'd also recommend using heavies rather than sentries. Also if spawns don't auto agress (either you or your drones) drones won't agress them first so in some missions you'd sit there doing nothing. The reason for not using sentries is once targets get under sentry tracking you'd just sit there doing nothing to the mission rats and drones aren't clever enough to pick the targets they'd be best against.
So whilst sentry domi is the best domi in my opinion, it's only for active at keyboard missioning really.

Edited by: Caldari citizen52145894561 on 27/08/2010 07:27:57 Drones agress anything "red" and "in range" "red" includes outlaws that have wronged you but not people with -5.1 and less status "red" includes any NPC ship that have red plus sign around their ship war targets I don't know
from my observations as in "in range" means to your ship and is usually about 20km from my observations, since drones order of attack is whatever directly attacks them their preferred currently hostile (currently shooting at you) target: med drones attack cruisers first, light attack frigates, and heavy attack BSs once preferred targets are dead, they usually attack whatevers closest to your ship that is hostile then anything that is "red" and "in range"

As far as i observed (and i¦m gallente droneboater) drones behave like that:
Drones set "aggressive" (and obviously out of drone bay):
They don¦t attack somebody (npc and player) targeting you. They attack when someone is (npc) or comes (ninja) red and is in range. Order of target attacking as one other poster above said.
Drones set "passive" (and obviousley out of drone bay):
Don¦t attack any red until red goes blinky (shooting at you). Rest same as above.
One thing telling me i¦m right is when i get sensor dampend and lose lock they sometimes try to return and orbit. When i change set to "aggressive" than they start attacking a "random" (red) npc. Although this might have something to do with range as well, but at least it works for me.
I have to admit that my drones are usually set "passive", as i¦m usually not afk, and don¦t want to mess up with triggers when my domi is gank-fitted for faster missioning.
@ Dr. Sheepbringer Lol, thanks for teaching me the meaning of afking. Actually i was thinking that OP is not very much experianced in running L4¦s. Just wanted to point out what COULD happen.

That you don't know the first thing about drone mechanics for a start.
Drones, even on agressive, will not just go and attack players or mission rats unless you or the drones have received agro first or unless they're instructed to, agro meaning that they have shot at you (or used ewar or propulsion jamming) or your drones, not just targetted them. They'll just return and orbit you.
They do have a memory though and will remember what targets are valid for them to shoot at and will continue through that list. It's very easy to test if you're not sure.
Time for me to stop feeding the troll now.
Edit: And to clarify passive drones don't attack anything unless specifically ordered to, even if it is shooting at you or them.
