having recently got an android phone I was slightly disappointing by the lack of apps for eve on this platform, so over a nice long night shift I came up with the beginnings of a plan to make an EFT clone for the android platform.
currently its nothing more then an idea but I believe with a small amount of help I can quickly make this app a reality to fill a hole in the eve tools that as far as I am aware no other app currently fills.
as such I'm looking for community interest in this project to help motivate me to get this made.as well as any features you would like to see in the app so I can begine to make a more complete roadmap for the project.
currently my plans for the 1.0 version are to have the following features:
- able to select and create a fit of all ships in eve
- be able to select from all ship modules in the game to fit to the ship
- use a default 0 skills pilot to calculate CPU/Power grid usage
I also have a basic GUI layout though of for the fitting screen that will resemble the asset browser when looking at a ship in aura currently.
this list will then grow to include and all V skills profile and using your own chars skills as in EFT currently
so what I'm after from the community is feedback on these features as a starting point for DroidFT as well as a wish list of things you would like to see included in upcoming versions. In addition I currently have thoughts of running 2 concurrent versions of this program, a basic free version and a paid version (probably at 99c) so any features you would not mind seeing being pushed into the paid version I would love to hear this as well.
finally appoliges for anyone who has made it this far through my post i have just finished a 13 hour night shift so its probably a little confusing to read.

Pretty sure a paid version would be against the EULA.

Not sure, but I don't think so. You can't advertise it the (official) eve forums, but I don't think there's anything to stop you from charging ó.99 on the app store.
Anyway, not sure if you mentioned this in your post, but if you're looking for a starting point, check out evehq. It's open source, although I have issues understanding VB.NET... 
I was going to check out making an iPhone version but.. well I'm not good enough/don't want to invest enough time to make my own fitting engine, and couldn't understand the VB.NET lol

Just to let you know that I've already started implementing a fitter in Aura. I've got the effects engine completed last week and I going through implementing the effects now (I can already calculate the DPS on Gallente Cruisers with blasters based of the characters Aura knows about). Should be another month before I have this in a state for a initial release.

awesome I would love to be able to get involved in the development of this rather then starting my own project if you would be amendable to the idea? as I would rather have one really good tool out there they 2 not so good ones..
my only thought would be to try and have some of these as separate apps as Aura is already starting to get quite big for a phone app at 6mb (on my phone currently.) to help keep the download down for people with restricted data plans to download this stuff and to make updates a lot smaller to push out to people?

since Marcel Devereux hasn't said anything else to me since my last reply, I'm going to start to develop this on my own.
until i get official word from CCP there wont be a paid version but regardless I want your most desired features in this kind of program so they can be included in a 1.0 release.
so start your lists and ill start coding :)

I dunno about charging in the app store, but you can certainly charge 100m ISK for a license and people would gladly do it. You might even do both, if you can.
Either way, please do.
My vote is for a droid capable client, the phones are only gonna get faster.

Progress update:
coding is going very slowly as i learn the platform, and I'm currently stumbling over getting the database to the client handset, i have found a way to get this to happen but **** a long process, however it is a once off and will make it completely network independent
no screen shots yet until i get this resolved but once i have expect to start seeing more development and screen shots on a regular basis.

Progress update for anyone that's still interested in this.
I currently have this to the stage where you can select any class of ship ship (frigate, marauder, titan etc) and see all the ships of that class to then select to enter the fittings screen.
all this information is pulled from the static database dump that will be downloaded to the SD card of your phone on the first run of the application
next up to create the fitting screen and allow you to select modules to fit to your chosen ship :) no ETA yet on when i will have the first public beta of this on the market but if anyone is interested in closed beta testing please send me an eve mail letting me know your interested and the details of your android device(s) and ill let you know when its ready for wider testing.
also I am currently targeting this app at android 2.1 and higher, so I your phone is not running this version please let me know, if there is enough interest i will look at running it on earlier version of android.

I have a Droid Incredible, and would love to be in on the testing.
I like to think I know a thing or two about the mechanics of EVE, and could help you insure the accuracy of the results. I've also been trying to think up ways to handle an EFT-like program on a mobile platform, if that input would be helpful at all.
(On a side note, the usefulness of your product would be greatly increased if you aimed for an All L5 option early. Being able to fit ships with 0 skills might not be not very useful, though I understand that you need basic, realistic goals to start with for projects like this.)

can everyone how has put there hand up for testing please join the DroidFT mailing list in game.
this is a limited list so if you haven't asked to be a tester you wont be able to join.
I now have enough testers to get this going with testing builds going out in the next few days.

thanks for all the interested in testing this app.
Currently I'm just fine tuning the code that i have already written and preparing to write the next section (adding modules etc)
there are lots of bugs currently that will need to be ironed out before a release t the public so this may take some time, but the more interest i see in this the more likely I am to be working on getting this out.
