How much turnover can you expect in a secondary trade up such as Rens? How fast is it in Jita compared to Rens? Can you make more money going to Jita from Rens or to Rens from Jita?
Do you have to monitor you prises in Jita more than in a secondary trade hub or can you expect them to be bought up immediately anyway due to demand or price fixing attempts?

I apologise for how this will sound but the answer to each of those questions is genuinely, and with the honest attempt at being as helpful as possible - "it depends".

Edited by: PinkFish on 30/08/2010 00:57:21 Generally the volume in Jita is around 10x the volume in rens. Some items maybe 5x, some infinitely greater as they only trade in Jita.
Now, heres the tricky part. Jita traders are, due the the competition, generally a one trick pony. Because no one (or 5, or 10) person can dominate a market segment they all have to play together to trade. This means the amount of isk you make is directly related to the amount of time you put in.
Rens on the other hand has entrenched traders who have been there for years. They know how to drive you away if you start stealing too much business. There is a chess game there to control market segments that, from what I've observed, 99% of the traders in the game simply don't see or comprehend. If you know how to play it you'll likely see greater volume in Rens then Jita (no horde of competition). If you do not know how to absolutely control a market with 2-3 active traders trying to encroach on you every day then you will see maybe 10% of the profits you would have made in Jita with your time.
If you are going to travel back and forth between Rens and Jita you are both going from Rens to Jita and from Jita to Rens.
I would say you have to monitor your prices less in Jita. Look at the 5 day moving average and place your buy/sell orders based on that. Then give it 2-3 weeks to reach your price and your goods will move. Only fools think you win in Jita by always being on top as if you move any serious volume the sell price will drop below the buy price before you liquidate your inventory and visa-versa for buy orders. Trends in Rens are less predictable and require a little more thought to maximize your profits/time.
A more friendly introductory hub would be Amarr. It has the competition of Rens but prices are more closely locked to Jita due to the fewer jumps between them. If you are looking to arbitrage as your career path it takes a hell of a lot less time, too.
