just made a mistake that cost me 800m. please fix it so it doesnt happen to anybody else. ccp just informed me that this is "not a bug" - therefore it is a feature. it needs to be fixed. this is madness.
on the market, search for a good. sort cheapest to most expensive. select the cheapest item. then scroll down the list and select (or miss click in my case) the most expensive listed price. buy some units. you are charged the most expensive rate for the goods, yet buy the goods from the seller with the cheapest price.
all from the simple interface (not the advanced).
this needs to be changed so that using the simple interface, you either buy the cheapest item in your location or if you select an item in the interface the units you have selected in the interface will be purchased (so you can buy from a different location).

This is an intended game feature. It forces the market to dump the cheapest orders in the same station. Someone did the same thing and bought a very expensive 178 million isk kestrel. Just make sure to sort by price next time and good luck.

This is a good feature of the market. It stops people putting up over priced items as a way of laundering isk that has been purchased as you always by the lowest priced item (in the same station as the overpriced item)and not inflated price one.
So the person who put up the over priced item in exchange for the isk they brought gets nothing.

to be fair. both of you don't know what your talking about.
buy the cheapest thing on the market, sure. but for heavens sake - make the interface pay the guy the price the seller is asking for (the sell price) - not the amount of isk that some poor guy misclicked on because some griefer had a market scam going on.

If anything this behaviour actually sets up a fantastic way to buy isk in the game. i want you to transfer isk to me that i paid for in real life. i go to the station. buy 2 units of EMPS for 300isk. split them into 2 single stacks. list one for 1billion isk. list the other for just above the best buy order on the market. you come along, select the 1b isk order. click buy. you've just traded me 1b isk. i remove the 1b isk market item. done. untrackable because CCP say it's a feature and within valid gameplay. there you go. can be done on a 1hour old toon.

Being able to bypass the lowest sell order and pay what you want is a method to go around the rules of transferring isk and tracking it, for violation of game rules and intended methods of play. Selling something at a huge profit isn't griefing because you actually get something for it.
If people are so 'rich' they can't be bother to use the market correctly they don't deserve the isk they have, if they are too ignorant the same. When people 'blind buy' they are saying 'get me that thing I don't care how much it costs or where it is' the interface obliges them.
And yes I have benefited from people's mistakes, attempts to bypass game rules, from other's attempts to corner the market on something, etc. -------------------------------------------------------------- Fanboys would make great cult members. |

tsk tsk. our definitions of griefing differ my friend. griefing in its purest scense is taking advantage of a game mechanic known by some, but generally not understood by others, especially those that run contrary to how "things should work", for personal gain (reward or entertainment). that is to say, use experience to ruin the game for others without the knowledge or skill to understand how, what, where.
sounds to me you have a area of the market scammed out well.
now that the mechanics are understood, and how flawed they are, it's simple. put a page full of expsensive sell orders up, at least 100x the market price, then make sure you also have the cheapest price for a good on the market. depending on the average size of the market window on people's screens you'll have between a 0.5% and 5% chance of a payday per month depending on the good and it's popularity (rough gut numbers). //sometimes less is more...zero

This. The 1st part of mechanics (paying holder of lowest cost sale order when buyer buys high cost item) was works against money laundering. But the 2nd part (paying holder of lowest cost sale order the price of high cost item instead of lowest cost order) counters first part and renables money laundering. 2nd part is pointless, and need to go.
There are other examples where CCP introduces a game mechanic to fill a loophole and then shoots itself in the foot, such as how fw missions used to cost standing penalty to decline but no standing penalty to quit, or suicide gankers get concorded but insurance still pay for their ship loss.

I am obviously missing something. How does the existing system significantly impact people's ability to launder ISK? They could go to an obscure system and put up a product unique at that station and launder away. It is an inconvenience to the Bad Guys since they might not be able to do it in Jita with trit. Although as long as their item was weird enough to be unique, they can still do it in Jita, but a high sec system a few jumps away would be safer.

Except if the market is moving, you could have 2 things happen to you after you place your 2 orders before you buy them as you say:
1) someone could undercut your low order, in which case he would get all of your isk! 2) someone could buy your low order since its the lowest, it probably is a good deal. In which case you loose your item, and the next highest order would get all of your isk.
Many times I have had it happen where by the time I could put up an order, someone already undercut me before I could even push the button to submit it. |

I look at 'griefer' as what I've seen around here, mostly, taken to be doing crap to annoy other people where tangible gains, are minimal if they exist at all. Knowing how things work, to me at least, isn't griefing.
I personally don't have anything cornered I just pay attention to when the people who like to manipulate the market make their moves and sometimes have said item 'in stock' as I'm still building my BPO harem. I make isk selling said item and there is the small chance someone tries to buy the highpriced item or does so out of carelessness.
Last I looked into it isk for sale sites often won't sell isk to trial accounts, probably so they can try to hack them(trojan), so if you buy isk that is on your account it is traceable. Account A buys isk from Account B, B is found/known to be an isk seller all isk transfers from B are going to be investigated/reversed at some point. Account C puts up a stupid sell order and account A 'happens' to buy it within minutes/seconds thus giving all the bought isk to Account C. CCP can see all of that, whether or not CCP is so stupid as to allow people to buy stuff for millions then keep the isk because they used the market is unknown to me. Add in the issue of Account A and Account C being in any way tied together with email, payment method, IP address, and CCP can easily have more 'evidence' of the transfer of RMT isk. All that leaves a nice trail CCP can look into and is much easier to follow than some other method.
