For now atleast, they're developing some decentralized BitTorrent thingy last I read, where every peer/tracker is a tracker. Time'll tell if anything'll come out of it.

Torrent sites/servers are being shut down everywhere by MPAA and taken to court/legal action.
If u visit lokitorrent u will find that they have also been issued with a writ.....
IMO they had what's coming to them... ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

Edited by: Xelios on 01/01/2005 01:46:20 It doesn't matter really, you can't stop filesharing. Even if every BitTorrent site out there is taken down new ones will just take their place, and if by some miracle all of BitTorrent is taken down some new filesharing app will take its place. The whole war against filesharing is absolutely ridiculous.

I'm betting most of them are taking themselves down to avoid lawsuits and other crap. We'll see how the MPAA & co's cases stand up in court, can't really prosecute anyone for posting links, just the sharing of copyrighted material (which the links/torrent files aren't IMO - the companies who made the software being shared didn't make the torrents for sure :P). On top of that, in some countries downloading certain copyrighted material isn't illegale, but sharing it is.
Interesting times indeed.

It reminds me of Bill Hicks' critique on the War On DrugsÖ. All the users are like indians sitting in the trees watching the coyboys searching on the ground ... "Are they looking for us? pffft We're not even in that field! I guess that means we win by default."
They might be able to stop Bit Torrent by pressuring the hosting sites to close, but there's as much chance of the authorities stopping people from wanting to freely share information as there is of them stopping people from wanting to freely share mind altering substances. Both have been part of human culture for so long the very idea of preventing it verges on the ridiculous.
