ok so i thought id never fly a carrier, but here i am, 2 years later, i have the skills trained EXCEPT for carriers in space ship command. So, here are the questions i need to have answered, and i want them answered immediately (in Arnold Schwarzenegger voice).
1.can i just buy a carrier on the market? or do i have to find someone to build it for me?
2. between the two carriers of Caldari which one would you think is far more superior?
I have ALOT more questions but for some reason they are NOT comming to mind atm... ill post back more. But thanks A BUNCH! for your answers! thanks!

the Caldari only have one Carrier, the Chimera. The Wyvern is a Super-Carrier. Former one can be bought on the market, later one can't.

No, you have to go into the woods and slay one yourself.

You can also check regional prices via contracts... there are some very good deals that can be had.
Also, just to point out... check the stats of the ship you are looking at. Super-carriers are essentially souped up versions of carriers that are immune to almost all forms of ewar (HICs are the only thing that can warp disrupt you), can hold [A LOT] more drones/fighters, and can hold more ships and mods in their hangers. The trade off is that they can only be built out in null, they have a HUGE pricetag (both in constructing and fitting), and cannot dock in stations like carriers. _______________________

Yes, they are avaliable on the standard market.
However, since it is a capital ship, and can only be built in losec/nullsec, you will only find them in losec/nullsec system stations. Just make sure your market filters are set so you can see losec orders.

So say for instance, if i buy a Chimera from a null sec system, how would i safely get it out of that system and travel 15 jumps through null sec safety? i find it hard to believe that one can safety travel that far in a carrier and not get popped, i couldnt even do it with my manticore. i know carrriers dont use stargates, but how do you jump exactly from 1 system to the other? its confusing to me thanks in advance!
1 more question, if i was going to travel my charon from jita to 0.0 which is about 30 jumps, how can i do this without getting caught in bubbles or a gate camp? i know u can cloak but what are other precautions?

Keep in mind that most null sec Alliances have their stations locked down to neuts and are NBSI, so getting in and getting your carrier out would be difficult. Also in a carrier you don't really have to worry about gate camps seeing as you don't travel through them and tbh should stay away from them unless you have support. Just buy from a low sec station, therefore you know that you can get in and get your carrier out.
Carriers, dreadnaughts titans travel by "jumping" you get a person to set up something called a cyno a certain distance (light years) that might be one stargate jump it might be 10, depending on the distance between systems. (this also uses fuel).
As for your charon....well....don't. Just don't.
Also before you go and buy this carrier of yours...do some reading, it'll save your billion isk shiny new chimera

Answer to both: You get a scout (several are better) and an escort fleet. If you can't get those, forget about owning a carrier now, it will save you tears later. ___________ EVE is dying! Now for real! |

With all these basic questions asked, I would suggest to the OP to wait flying one until you know far more then you do now about carriers, how to use them, their vulnerabilities, etc. Otherwise I fear you won't enjoy it for long, unless you keep it docked up for ever.

To actually be useful as a carrier pilot you'd need far more skilling than just the basic requirements to fly it.
For example you'd want jump drive operation (less cap need to jump) trained to 5, which is a prerequisite for jump drive calibration (more range) und jump fuel conservation (less fuel).
Also a carrier is actually not that much of a fighting vessel, but more of a support one. That means you'd want capital shield transfers and energy transfers trained.
To really fill its designated role well you'd want to be able to fit a triage module, which again is a lot of skilling.
Last but not least: If you don't know what it is you probably don't need it. As suggested above you really should get to know more about it than it looking cool before you intend to fly one.

This!!!
Unless you're living in low or nullsec, and are going to be doing a POS bash alongside other carriers then you really aren't going to need one. The only other real use for them is to move assembled and rigged ships around more easily and safely (by jumping between station systems in low/null).

thanks guys... ya im not going to be buying one anytime soon, Im not looking to do any PVP with it, just more plexe's with friends, and moving my mods/ships/etc back in forth from null sec locations, and that is all. also im training jump drive operation V and jump calibration to 4, since i hear you can make 25 regular stargate jumps in 1 carrier jump. so that answers my question regarding, once i do buy a chimera ill be able to jump it out in 1 jump and im home! so thanks alot for your replies, feel free to add on top of this! fly safe!
