Edited by: Cheekything on 04/09/2010 17:51:41 First thread in a long time, however I just want to know what does Eve mean as a game to people?
I'm just doing a bit of research on the matter as I'm pretty sure it's not spending a year or so to disband and alliance who killed your new ship.
So what do you enjoy?
Why eve over other MMO's?
What makes your heart race or your pride shine?
Why did chibba decide to mine veldspar?
What makes your eve?

That is my answer. I use EVE to kill time. It's a game, what else can it mean for anyone?
Sure, you have goals to meet but that's about it.

I'll re-clarify "What does eve as a game mean to you, as in the in game content"
I'm more looking for the in depth reason your playing eve rather than XYZ MMO.

because it is the only non carebear MMO in existence. I know they throw that word out there a lot in EvE but the fact of the matter is if you undock you can be ganked for your stuff.
I used to play freelancer, it was so great ant the pvp was incredible. However, eventually every server turned full looting off and it just wasn't fun anymore.
So I do it for the rush. When you say "fanboi" try to picture a fat man doing burlesque with 2 big ass fans that say CCP on one and HTFU on the other. Because that dude is me. |

I like eve because..
Almost the whole world plays on one server.
New players dont just come in and get where your at..makes your time worth something in game.Even though that gap reduces with each patch!
Its the coolest looking space game around.
And its not a fast pace game..can be,but its also a game where I can sit and drink a coffee and think. If i want fast pace action..I go play a fps.
And don't forget the social part of it.Chat and all.
Thats off the top of my head..sure I could come up with more if I try

So what do you enjoy?
- Chatting with people I know over various game related and game unrelated things.
- Correcting people's grammar or spelling where I can. edit: editing my own posts when I find a spelling error.
- Using my alt to make forum postings of various quality
- Trying to get stuff organized (sometimes it even works)
- ... sometimes I even enjoy flying a spaceship
Why eve over other MMO's? Well, MMOs require no skill and usually cost a monthly fee for a multiplayer part that you get with almost every single-player game these days. Also, MMO players are all geeks with 0 RL. That was my opinion until the announcement of a Star Trek MMO (by Perpetual back then) made me want to try an MMO and I picked EVE after I heard of one of the major heists in EVE's history (Guiding Hand Social Club). I never tried any other MMO besides EVE. I'm hooked for good.
What makes your heart race or your pride shine? I don't need a reason to have my pride shine. My heart races whenever I run up the stairs to my appartment so I can log-in ASAP.
Why did chibba decide to mine veldspar? Probably because it was worth it. But why are you asking me and not him.
What makes your eve? CCP

I came to this game from Freelancer and like that game I love the fact that when you get ganked you loose something. Therefore there is a better quality of players in EVE than other MMO, thus a bigger challenge to achieve something ingame. |

Just subscribed to EQ2, still have few days left on Eve sub but haven't played for a month.
They say it is a sandbox but only because there is not a lot of content.

Why eve over other MMO's? Thrill of getting ****d..
What makes your heart race or your pride shine? Running expensive stuff through any kind of space.
Why did chibba decide to mine veldspar? I thought mines where rendered non-functional?
What makes your eve? Organized stuff that works.

The questions are more to set you of :P.
I don't think anyone but chribba knows why he started to love veldspar.
My point with that is he found his love what is yours.

I play for many reasons, I'll list a few...
When you mess up in pvp and die, you actually lose something, pvp is a challenge and involves real tactics.
I enjoy the occasional round of missions, and I like the fact that there is not any 'locking in' of pve race. As a Gallente Pilot I can run any races missions including pirate factions.
I LOVE the fact that the game makers allow piracy and sovereignty, and how control of resources effect markets and essentially the entire game.
The scope of Eve is amazing and what you do has consequence, this is why I will play Eve for along time to come.

Its probably the best space based MMO ( I do not like swords, magic etc) out there. I was hoping Star Trek Online would replace this but I was massively disappointed. And for all the moaning people do, EvE is a great game.

Why do I like EVE? It is representative of the desire which Star Wars, Stephen Baxter, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, and Privateer planted in my heart ages ago. It allows me to do as I please whenever I please. It lets me improve my character while dispensing with that which would ordinarily shackle me to a desk. It is on a long timescale with no foreseeable end, meaning that effort and time spent can be considered rewarding even years later. I love doing anything with my corpies, pve or pvp. Cooperation is the coolest thing to ever happen to games, and EVE has it in spades. There is nothing cooler than blowing up somebody elses spaceship. I love learning and doing new things... and I will never stop learning in EVE. My success is not strictly proportional to my reaction time and ISP quality. You can be good. You can be bad. There are compelling reasons to do both.
