WTF are you smoking? Sentries/Heavies if you run an afk-domi setup but for those of use that actually run missions then mediums to take out frigates that get under your guns.
Also OP, if you want to go down the close and brawl route then use blasters. I'll see if I can dig out my corp mate's hyp fit.

Quote: I guess it is down to not taking out the majority quickly enough. But also there are missions where you get scrambled, webbed and your targetting jammed that it is not possible to take them out quick anyways because the drones might go off and decide they have better target.
I think your problem is really technique. Some advice: 1. Align yourself so you can warp as the first sign of trouble. 2. Kill frigates first. If you dont, you can be jammed, webbed, scrambled and basically lose your ability to escape. 3. If your drones go off target - retarget them. There's no sense having drones pecking at a BS if you're webbed. Also drones off on their own tend to aggro.
I've never flown a Hyperion so I'm not so sure on the fitting. But I'll take a stab at it. Essentially it is a gun boat. 1. Drone link augmenter is useless. Since you are a gun boat, drones should only be used on things which get inside your ships guns. Put another gun. 2. Guns are too big, drop down to 350s. 3. Afterburner is useless in missions. Your ship is slow, get used to it. 4. Put a tracking computer or target painter to help your guns. 5. In your lows your are going to want at least 1 mag stabilizer again to help your dps. Put it in place of the beta reactor control. 6. You should have a full set of medium and light drones. Lights are if the frigs get inside your guns, mediums for cruisers+. Med's can kill frigs but you'll be amazed at how much faster lights do it.
On your rigs I don't think you'll need the large ancillary control once you drop down to 350s. Also the guns you want are the "prototype" version.

There is simply no reason to use this module on anything but an active shield-tanked setup.

Unless fitting skills mean that use of 425mms would compromise the rest of a fit, there simply isn't a good reason to drop down to 350s.
With the right skills, fit and flown sensibly, you should be able to pick off frigates beyond 30km comfortably with 425mms. Loaded with faction AM, you'll insta pop them. Frigates only become a worry at close range if they web and warp scram and thats only a worry if you can't tank the incoming dps long enough to kill the rats doing the damage. At close range, you should have T2 light drones eat any frigs scramming and warping as a priority. Then let the light drones eat the other frigs, then switch to T2 med drones to help eat everything else.
There are not many missions where you can't pop frigs at range or where you don't have the luxury of time to let T2 drones eat the frigs while your guns pound everything else.

You cant fit 5 425s w/o skills. You cant fit 5 350s + 2 LAR IIs.
At the question about why do you need sentries/heavies in a domi - T2 sentries will kill 4 ships in the time it takes me to kill 1 with my guns.
As long as you have range, T2 sentries obliterate missions far faster than guns will on a domi. The slots and grid aren't there to make a Gun-Domi work.
You can do some good things w/ a Blaster Domi, but blasters + missions = Bad JUJU. Everyone else had a sig and i felt lonly :( |

Just fly something like this! Hyperion is the worst missionboat gallente has. If your skills and taktics are better, you may fly a navy domi with ~1k dps.
-> Eve-Survival.org -> Helps a lot! After a while, you know your missions.

350s have a better tracking than 425s. You can use a tracing computer, but that would require one more midslot. This is a pretty save Setup. You can replace x with meta 4, t2 or higher, if you got the isk/skills.
Domi dmg is 2/3 drone dmg, so you need good drone skills. If you don't have em, fly the Mega with 425s, it has a great bonus on tracking...
The Dualrep domi is a good ship for tanking heavy dps, I flew lvl 4 missions after 6 weeks of skilling...
so long
