Love this game, I mean I really do, but jesus...
Wake up for a 6.30 CTA on a Sunday Morning, (stupid but hey, Evokes still asleep)... for up 250 BS fleet and off we go, gate lag gate lag, traffic control...etc, damn tedious but get to the first target, smack down the POS and mods, nearly die twice to POS gunners due to horrible lock time for logistics due to lag...but never mind I survive... Enemey fleets warps in , modules sieze up 2 mins to lock, guns wont fire (well one shot per 5 mins for a pulse lazor)...anyway we win enemy fleet warps away... Repeat above for another 2 POS and couple more fights, bloody annoyng lag,is all over....I am still alive... Now the way i am judged in my corp/alliance is by Kill Mails (right or wrong thats the way it is)....Out of approx 50 things I saw die while I was shooting and recieving damage updates for....I got 8 kill mails...... 8..... I know the km issue is and old one, the lag just the same, but for christs sake FIX IT...
This is suposed to be a PVP enabled game, if guns wont fire, logi cant rep, and KM's dont work......what does that leave ya with? Macro Mining Online?

Did you keep a straight face when typing that?
The hope of CCP actually listening to their playerbase died for me along time ago.

I mean, are you playing This game or is it playing you?
The best quote I ever read about lag was from someone who didn't realize their ship exploded a while ago:

Did ever all this 250 fleet members participate in the EVE test server mass test to help the ccp employs working on the server test and pinpoint loge causing objects? Most of the time I see 60 to 140 participating, why you thing they do this! Stop complaining and encourage your friends to participate.

While I do believe that mass testing isn't a bad idea however there are many flaws in your statement aswell as the mass testing itself.
So what you are saying is that him and his mates shouldn't actually play the game and just beta test?
The results released by CCP haven't been that great in past tests aswell as there hasn't been much progress from what the general player base is experiencing day to day. So its getting to the point of if these tests are even worth it?
Also there is alot of TZ issues when it comes to the tests but thats something I think will always be a issue.

Spurty my best lag story is the time I was in a large IT/BoB V Goons etc fleet fight, Lag was horible, rubberbanding grid taking 15 mins to load, anyway grid loaded for me, 2 enemy supercaps just sitting there, I spend 30 mins shooting em both, see em both die, warped around a bit with the fleet, node crashed. Im all happy and stuff casue I think I have 2 SC KM's.....upon logging back in I recieve my own kill mail.... I was popped 10 mins before I started shooting the SC's....
To Cipher Jones, no idea what your going on about , but you sould like an ASS....and kinda amusing
And I do beta test various games now and then , Beta mean before the game comes out, the company producing the game is suposed to fix it once its publicly released..My 2c on the lag, more computing power needed.....

He doesn't pay CCP every month to test thier product. That normally goes the other way round and they pay you to test thier product.
I don't think some people grasp the problem. Every fleet fight is laggy, The game mechanics require fleets, to take on a fleet you need have to field one yourself. This makes it laggy. It would be appreciated if this was fixed as a priority, over something like a new game feature for instance.

I don't pretend to understand all of the issues many of the long time players have with CCP. I can completely sympathize and empathize with he frustration that large fleet lag might be causing. I haven't participated in any large fleet battles yet nor have I experienced any lag at all since I started playing.
I understand that's because I haven't spent a lot of time doing the things that are most likely to cause lag. So I can totally understand why people who have played for years would be particularly upset about it but from a relatively new player perspective, it's like people are talking about a completely different company than the one I have seen since beginning my first account a few months ago.
In the past few weeks, I have read tons of Dev posts on the forums addressing player concerns about CCP priorities. I have read, sometimes painfully, volumes of blogs which speak specifically to the Eve player community and on a very technical level about specific steps that are being taken NOW to address ability lag, fleet lag, etc.
Less than 24 hours ago there was a mass test in Jita on the live server that pushed the hardware nearly to it's limits and was very fun to participate in. This means a few people had to get out of bed, on what I assume would have been a day off for them (could be wrong here but even if I am somebody at CCP still had to dedicate a portion of their day to make this happen)and performed whatever magic it is that server guys, devs, designers etc. do and all in an effort to decrease lag and increase our pleasure in the game.
So when I read some of these CCP doesn't care about lag posts I am conflicted. On the one hand I feel bad for the people who are obviously not making the problem up but on the other, I see a company that actually is trying to fix things and that is impressive to me. What impresses me even more is the direct, proverbial eye to eye contact CCP exhibits when dealing with its player base.
Those blogs were no joke. Some of the things that were covered in those blogs were quite educational and kudos to every individual dev that took the extra time to walk us, the players, through your workday step by step. I've never seen anything like that in any game I've ever played and I've been a PC gamer since the Commodore 64.
Now I realize much of this only happened following the whole debacle after the last CCP/CSM meeting and the ensuing threadnaughts about priorities. I was here for all of that and followed it quite closely and what happened was amazing. The players rose up and forced CCP to notice them. If not for that, none of this would be getting done now, I understand that, don't get me wrong. You all should be proud of yourselves. You stood up for what you knew was right and you have effected positive change on the entire player base. For that I say "thank you." and I mean it wholeheartedly but it seems for some people, no matter what CCP does, it will never be enough.
Can't we give them a few points for trying?

Trying doesn't get you very far...I could say I was TRYING to pay the monthly fee to CCP and still expect my sub to continue...try it...see the end result...could try the same with your rental bill, see how well that goes for you. Trying != fixing.

Don't forget it also promotes naping and is the sole reason nullsec is mostly claimed atm with very few systems left free. Personally I don't think the new sov mechanics would have had a chance if there had been no lag. Well at least for anyone without a zillion cap ships on tap to pwn the poor guy putting up the markers. I mean even noir is a territory holder now..

Lag has been a problem for a very long time. The problem stems from using stackless python because it cannot take advantage of multiple processors or multiple cores on a single cpu. This may have seemed a good idea ten years ago when development started and processors were single core and Intel/AMD were just chasing outright speed. Now with most things being multithreaded they are scaling out with more cores per CPU instead of scaling up like they used to.
CCP is a bit stuck here because they can only scale up and have hit the ceiling when it comes to CPU speed. Jita can run on the biggest multi cpu box available but it will only use one core of one cpu at a time.
Fixing jita lag by distributing the load is good by moving the market, character and other functions to dedicated servers. This leaves the system one behind which includes all the combat orientated stuff which happens on a smaller scale in jita than on nodes where a big fight is going on. When you have several hundred in system in a battle nobody is checking the market or looking at character profiles so it doesnt help much.
Unless stackless python is going to be able to take advantage of multiple cores then this problem will not go away. Short of a rewrite to another platform, a shift to a totally different type of cpu base or a miracle from Intel/amd to do with speed the only way to help is to spread the load as much as possible.
However I do have to say that I am very unimpressed with CCP running a stress test on their live system causing the node to crash. And before people start to say that they couldnt do it on Singularity that isnt an excuse. A recent blog post talked about a lite version of the client http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=779. This was designed for stress testing amongst other things so why not point it at Singularity and try it out there.

No we cant... CCP killed small fleet warfare, pushed the game towards large fleet warfare, only to be have the players hit by the lag monster.
