Edited by: Daergaar on 05/09/2010 21:37:45 I've not had much luck finding a guide or something. Is this something I have to learn by experience?
I'm used to traveling through low sec, but I don't really have any concept of 0.0 and what the alliance dynamics do to it compared to low sec.
Does anyone know of any guides or anything on how to travel through 0.0 in relative safety? I need to go there to retrieve something small but want to minimize the risk. Obviously nothing in EVE is safe (not even high sec) but if I can minimize my potential of getting podded and getting my module out safely, I'd be glad to know how. I can fly almost any class of ship except for covert ops, black ops, stealth bombers, or capital ships.

The only 95% sure thing for survivability but not necessarily getting where your going is a. cloaky scout alt or corpmate b. cloaky whatever your moving.
along with all other standard operating procedures, not warping to 0, safe spots to d-scan where no celestial available, etc. etc.
Your scout still has to take the jumps and thats the point you will most likely loose a ship. But at least it's your scout.
If you have common sense and some experience survivability is high, there are possibilities for FUBAR, say an interdictor lands on scouted clear gate along with your main and jumps with you, etc.,
edit- I say high survivability based on my experience, mostly small fast frigs or cov-ops cloaked viators. With caution, patience and good scouting very unlikely to get caught in a viator If your moving in say your mission BS, GL bro your gonna need it.
and actually reading your question, 2 small improved cloaky frigs. Go in ahead of time if item is of worth and make bm's to d'scan gates.
Warp to 100 on a gate, bm, warp to 100 on something else, warp back to 100 on the first 100km bm, delete old bm and make new one. Rinse, repeat safe spots aren't necissary if celestials are available within d'scan range of gate, however theres always a chance of landing on someone. Try warping to 70 most ppl warp to 0-100 might give you time to GTFO if needed

T3 with covert and interdiction nullifier subsystems can be hard to catch as it ignores bubbles.

Confirming ppl that ask for help with getting around 0.0 generally have
T3 with covert and interdiction nullifier subsystems and all relevant skills trained to use it and prob just forgot or something.

Actually, I CAN fly a Tengu, I just can't afford one (but I don't have covops skills high enough).

1.Cloaky ships.
This isn't 100% as there are plenty of gangs that are adept at decloaking you before you manage to sneak out of their bubble.
2.Uber-fast ships.
Dramiels and some interceptors can burn out of a bubble and warp before the campers know what's happening. If the campers have a huginn in gang this shags you quite badly though.
3.Covert/Nullified T3s.
Ignores bubbles, really annoying things. Relatively easy to decloak though.
4.Get a ship with a jump drive.
Stargates are for noobs.
5.Give your ships to a mate with a carrier then just pod-jump to your destination.
Pretty much self explanatory really ---------- Who, me? |

It's pretty simple really.
1. Get an expensive ship you invested time and effort into getting.
2. Fly into 0.0.
3. Hope to God you don't see me in the same system as you.

Trolls aside, I'll be flying a cheap-ish ship. I was just looking for general tactics (in other words what's different about 0.0 versus low-sec, aside from interdictor bubbles).

Bubbles and no gate guns... that is about it. Fly a Nano'd Cov Ops frigate.
Although, I have killed some of these ships with a triple sensor boosted Hurricane before. So it is not a perfect science.

Surprised no-one said this yet:
If you ar travelling into 0.0 to pick up an item - make damn sure you can dock at the station it's in before you leave, otherwise it's a completely wasted journey.
Sovereignty space gives the option of not allowing you to dock - if the owners don't know you - chances are you're stuffed.

The main differences are bubbles and intel. Bubbles can be temporary ones from interdictors or more permanent free mobile warp disruptors. Either kind can be over the gate, to stop you warping off, or up to 100kn off the gate to pull you in. To get by on the gate bubbles, be cloaky or very fast. To avoid the pull bubbles warp to gates from an unexpected angle, ideally a safe spot or, at a push, a planet.
If you are moving through alliance 0.0 you will likely be reported on an intel channel sonn after entering their space, but as long as you aren't in something juicy I doubt someone would come after you.
Remember the first gate into 0.0 is the most likely to be camped. Once you are through this, if you don't warp gate-to-gate you are most likely to be OK.

One way to travel thru 0.0 is to have nothing to loose. A newbie ship, no implants or fittings and go where you want. Get popped and podded, doesn't matter, just start over. Eventually you can go anywhere, plus you get alot of experiene on how to survive nul sec. In WoW, this is called corpse surfing.

My advice is to study the map, find a "back way" into the region you are looking to enter. I have been living happily in 0.0 ratting my sec status down for a while now and i'm in the deep south. The major (and usually quicker routes) are usually camped to hell and even a cov-ops may not get you through.
Generally though - cov-ops, dont warp gate to gate (especially if there are people in system with you) and dont just dock at stations (NPC ones) as these can have a camp and bubbles on the exit ramp - warp to 100 first to check it out.

Edited by: Daergaar on 07/09/2010 17:11:13 Thanks for all the great advice!
In the meantime I had finished training Frigs up a level so I can finally fly covops. I used one of those and managed to make it in and out without too much issue. The out was hairier as the item I was carrying was fairly juicy (worth about ~74 million), but some AFK cloaking at safespots and some probing did me a lot of good. While I was cloaked AFK, I got lucky enough to scan down a B449 wormhole. It took me into Arkoz, in Amarr space. Took awhile to get back to The Forge region, but overall not a bad trip.
The worst thing about it were the permabubbles near gates and the interdiction spheres made by ships. The advice about warping in at odd angles was insanely useful. I was nearly caught in a ship interdiction sphere because the drones that were swarming around him uncloaked me. Luckily I was almost on top of the stargate and jumped before any drama happened.

The tactic of bouncing off celestials and coming in at strange angles can't be stressed enough. The one time you get overconfident in your 0.0 survival abilities and warp directly to a gate in a covops you'll fly right past the gate and into a drag bubble and right onto a decloaking can (believe me, I've lost a 35 mil bomber to a 3 month old character solo camping in a rifter in this way).

Until recently, this probably wouldn't get you very far... However, due to the fear instilled in 0.0 alliances by the new Causality trailer: Fly a Merlin.
Intel channels will light up, and all systems near you will evac or dock up.
Fly safe!
