Whoa! That was something very unexpected to wake up to!!!
Thankyou so much - I'll put it to good use getting my ships blown up right away!!!
Also, a big thanks to the pilot who also popped a bit of ISK into my coffers. I will spend it wisely.
@ Flynn - lol!!
To all other people who have responded: Cheers!! What a way to start my day! *smilingly skips off merrily to work*

Welcome to Eve. I too,am pretty new to the game but had a very similar experience in my first week. A mail to my killer asking for insight brought a convo invite, a lot of patient advice and even a little isk to replace my destroyed equipment.
I've encountered a lot of people since then willing to give advice to those interested in listening.
My first MMO (called MUD's then) was Meridian59.

I've had good experiences convo'ing the people that blow me up, too.
Though more recently most of my explosions have been because I did something I knew was lazy/risky and biting it, so I've tended to forego the "invite to > conversation" in favor of banging my head against the wall repeatedly.
(Rule 1 of covert ops: when you die, it's generally your fault.)

Yep. Generally speaking, provided your character isn't years old and you don't go down the route of whining, saying something about the other guys mum, calling them a noob etc etc convoing your killer might provide some useful insight.

Indeed it payed off, you ended up bald and Minmatar. Great things lie in store for you.

Originally by: Malles Istveruckt Edited by: Malles Istveruckt on 06/09/2010 09:36:02 I just want to introduce myself to the forum, say g'day ("G'day!") and share my first months experience with you all.
All the games I have played over the past few years were letting me down; lots of eye candy but no real complexity or depth. To put that in perspective I started playing text based rpgs on a Microbee 16k computer in 1982 and I can tell you games have been getting dumbed-down to the point of ridiculousness since then - and I am sure it is a logarithmic progression.
So I started looking around and saw an ad for Eve. I did a bit of research, decided it was the game for me and started a trial account. I should mention at this point that I am a 'click stuff and see what it does' kind of gamer.
Well I royally screwed that character up during the training quite quickly and decided to quit while I was ahead and start another trial. This time I started doing some reading. So much bloody reading... It paid off.
I decide to take a chance after a while and take my shiny new destroyer out to 0.4 to do some ratting and some guy took me out after an hour of being there blowing up stuff and salvaging. I asked him what I did wrong and he gave me some great tips. What a great thing for him to do. Time to hit the books again!
Here is a game I can really sink my teeth into. Complexity, gameplay, top people and most importantly, my kind of fun, all in one place. I have since been building my skill tree (for PvP), mission running, ratting and researching both the game itself and Corps. I have a few on my short list and hope to be doing PvP with one soon.
So there you have it. Loving the game and absolutely loving using my brain for gaming again.

And somebody said Eve was dying... I see you as a person who would kill a ship and tell them what they did wrong.. people like you in eve that are this young within game yet having the understanding of a 2 year player is a rarity.
Good luck m8! And fly dangerous.

Nice to see that there are still new players that are not discouraged by the complexity of EVE and instead perceive it as a challenge...as opposed to bring me 10 bandit heads and 5 wild boar livers
And you should definitely check this guide eve bible

Edited by: Malles Istveruckt on 08/09/2010 15:35:28 @ yani: I am still quietly chuckling to myself at your comment.
@ spoon: I'm a bit of a balls to the wall guy and everyone keeps telling me to 'Fly Dangerous' so I think I'm going to have to make it my new my motto!
@squid: Yeah found that during my research - it's a great guide. More bloody reading!! I swear my eyes are starting to go and I'm only 42 years young!

Welcome to EVE Malles. Been a long 7 1/2 years of fun for me now. I wish you the same.
But be careful... People in EVE will shoot you first and help you latter. Thats the way great friendships begin in EVE
