1. Are there still WHs that aren't occupied or do the majority now have residents?
2. Am I right in thinking a medium tower is the bare minimum to use when setting up a POS?
3. Is low / null sec the best place to scan for entrances?
thanks ;)

Best place to find a wh you want to live in is by getting into a hole with a static to the class of system you want, then keep closing that static until you find one with the right combo of static, effect and current residents.
I believe in general the high class wormholes are likely to be connected to the lower security space, but equally believe c4+ are less likely to be directly connected to k-space in general.
There's quite a few systems with PI and no POS, or POS without a FF, or just poorly defended. |

1. There are still plenty of unoccupied wormholes, however it will take time to find an unoccupied one that is good in terms of static, effect and planets for your needs.
2. Medium is a bare minimum as 3-4 bored battleships can take out a small in a couple of hours. In the higher level wormholes where people can bring capitals through, you'd want a large one, preferrably faction
3. Not really, you can find wormholes in to any class from hi-sec. Once you're in a wormhole, its best to keep scanning from within the wormhole itself. Nothing is impossible. We just haven't quite worked out how to do it yet. |

How do you find out if an exit / entrance is static?

Well, I usually use www.staticmapper.com which list probable statics for most wormholes.
However, it seems to be down at the moment, so the manual way, is to close it and see if a new one of the same type instantly appears. Nothing is impossible. We just haven't quite worked out how to do it yet. |

Edited by: Daneel Trevize on 07/09/2010 14:38:31 Obvious basic thing is that it's not named K162 from inside the wormhole system in question, but on the other side. But that doesn't mean it's not a dynamic in that region/constellation, so yep, find it's mass limit (see WormholeThingy/something else) and carefully close it so you're all inside when it collapses and you should get a new sig of the same strength within say 30seconds. Systems can have 2 statics as well as dynamics and incoming holes. |

Thanks for the answers so far :)
Ive only found two WHs so far, both in HS and both named K162 on the HS side. So does that mean they were both static exits to HS from the two WHs in question?

It means they were both exits. Static exits, I couldn't tell you. But it means that someone from inside the w-space system probed out a newly spawned hole, and traveled through it to high-sec.

So before someone came through that exit it would have been named something else on the HS side?

There's some debate on this topic, but having gone in quite a few, I'm fairly certain that whichever side gets warped to first creates the name.
So if someone inside a C3 w-space system scans down a wormhole and warp to it, it might say something like B274 (which is high-sec). On the high sec side, if someone else then finds that wormhole, it would say K162, because it's now an 'exit' hole.
On the other hand, if you are in high sec and you find a wormhole leading into C3 w-space, it might say something like M267 (which is a C3 w-space). Anyone already inside that space and finding the wormhole after you did would see K162 inside the w-space system.

I've never heard of someone having their static scanned from the backside first and getting a k162 out from their home. We always have our outgoing hole in our home, and the sig's always named right and size 2.2 whereas k162 is size 10. I'm a believer that the sig doesn't spawn until the front side's scanned and warped to. I think AHARM stated e.g. they'd had an empty c6 with static c6 which came out into their home, and the sig had appeared in their home only when they'd scanned the static of the other c6, when it was clear minutes before. |
