When it has alot more competition in the space-"game"(space spreadsheets) genre? Mass Exodus from New Eden? Brief drop in activity as people try other things?
Or a mostly satisfied playerbase that wouldn't give another game the time of day in the space genre?
Thoughts?

Give me an MMO like Elite or Freespace, which is not just a Mac native app but behaves itself properly, and EVE will have some competition.
In the meantime, my social network is expanding so I'm hardly likely to jump to a new game unless it's enticing enough to drag me away from my friends.

Eve is for me foremost the hardcore pvp game. And other spaceship games are being made for carebears. So people like myself do not even have reasons to try another games.

I wish EVE had some serious competition. CCP is really pushing the limits of...well..video games in general. Imagine what they would do if they where vying for #1...

People were asking the same question a year ago, guess what most games never deliver on the hype they make.

As far as I am concerned the sun shines out David Braben's arse. But .. I think apart from technical considerations, there are legal issues with Frontier making another Elite game. Altho they say a single player Elite is coming after Outsider so who knows. Its only been like twenty years ..

Yea i remember writing Frontier development about ten years ago, asking about the status of the game.... still working on it they replied. Now its after Outsider, a game that also seems to have come to a standstill. I loved the Elite games, and would love to see another release, single or mmorpg.

nobody is ever going to have the balls to make a video game where you can steal other peoples stuff. So there will be no "competition". When you say "fanboi" try to picture a fat man doing burlesque with 2 big ass fans that say CCP on one and HTFU on the other. Because that dude is me. |

Was wondering the same a while back but:
ò Startrek Online Kind of failed already. ò Starwars The Old Republic Much closer to WOW than EVE, space combat on rails, no pvp in space. ò Black Prophecy is going F2P + item store which is kind of a direct opposite of EVE's sim/sandbox concept. . Jumpgate Evolution ??? Not sure about this one. ò Did I miss any?
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think any of those titles are as realistic as EVE in regard to risk vs. reward, serial consequences which never will be the same and offering a canvas for you to exploit your talents and (social) intelligence at. In regard to pew pew: BP and JGE might offer great twitch based space combat but I wonder how exciting it will be after 'respawning' for the hundredth time.

It is pretty crazy that they've been talking about building basically a whole new game for four years when four years is a perfectly normal period of time to build a game from the ground up. But I mean, four years, that's like FORTY YEARS!!! CRAZY!
Also, Microsoft Office 2010, that's some pretty stiff competition.

Did you already forget the introduction of PI and the incredible effect the reprocessing of NPC seeded POS modules had on the market and wallets? That was new, broken and certainly very far from quality (not to speak of polished quality).

When it has alot more competition in the space-"game"(space spreadsheets) genre? They won't have any real competition. At least not in a year.
Mass Exodus from New Eden? Don't think so.
Brief drop in activity as people try other things? See #2.
Or a mostly satisfied playerbase that wouldn't give another game the time of day in the space genre? That's the general idea.
Thoughts? None.
