So if there's going to be more PVE content added, it would be super-keen if, in the grand traditions of Master of Orion (I&II) and Star Trek: Birth of the Federation, and Empire Strikes back, we had giant space monsters roam the Eve universe from time to time.
Before you say "yar yar" understand that this could be implemented into PVP and player-created storylines and politics as well.. Picture this: Giant space ameobas or crystalline entities (whatever your tastes are) floating through space devouring POS's in 0.0 and even high sec stations and destroying planet-side installations. As in Master of Orion, these random invasions cutting massive swaths of destruction through player controlled systems could be taken advantage of by opposing political factions? These entities could only be destroyed by very large fleets. Size of entities? Titan sized or even station sized? Lag might be a problem but since when isn't it? Thoughts, flames, trolls?

There are plenty of "giant space monsters" flying through 0.0 and lowsec. More and more everyday, in fact. Please vsit and see for yourself.
Nobody's saying your ganking days will be over with the intro of space whales. There simply will be something larger out there that can gank you...whole. Events aren't really carebear, I just thought that I would get the first thoughts you all might have out of the way first. IMHO, events certainly aren't carebear if they actually effect politics, commerce and strategic situations within the universe. If you're not comfortable with space whales, perhaps we could have stars supernova or something equivalent to disasters that shake things up (forgive the pun) from time to time aside from large fleets of sansha that stay in one system.

Fine. Giant drone queen doombringers that harvest spare parts for their dronelings if you please. Pass it on. In case you haven't noticed, it takes a bit of time to get a playable pvp character in this game and it might be nice to, you know, have something to do until then.
I don't mine and mission running just is not good. Pass it on.

Also, I am very much in for space-whales!
That would be the 1950's, actually. I'm looking to bring it back into style. I dislike slang from the past 10 years. I will use it again, with or without your help, and I will be victorious.
Glad to see some people see the potential in this and I'm not totally off my rocker (slang from the turn of the last century).

Your bigotry against Space Whales has been noted.

Looks like I'm going to have to outfit a Bestower and call it the "Steve Irwin."

Originally by: Vher Vixxen The idea behing this game is player interaction. We don't need space whales.
As stated previously, the idea is not to simply introduce monsters in a pve environment (orcs, goblins, etc.), but to allow those monsters or events to actually effect the political and strategic circumstances of low sec and null sec space by destroying corporate assets. These monsters or events could be challenged militarily, for instance, but that would allow an opposing alliance or faction to gain advantage of the situation and attack or aid as circumstances may allow. It opens up a different dynamic in the game.
Look, real world politics doesn't happen in a spreadsheet vacuum. Oil spills, terrorist attacks, plagues, famines, earthquakes, godzilla, tsunamis, nuclear meltdowns all occur to modern nations and those events often shift the balance of power. This is not an uncommon feature in strategic games, so I don't understand why it is uncommon in Eve.
Hell, in Shadowbane, the gamemasters would actually take control of giant beasts and demons and such and attack a random player-run city just to see what happens. Some people would help that city and form new alliances. Some would take advantage of the destruction and mount more attacks. It was forking exciting, man. Don't knock it until you try it.
