Edited by: Solid Star on 12/09/2010 03:06:18 If you look strictly at the numbers, Gallente is just as good (or better) then other race ships. However, I consider it the worse because a big part of their stats come from the drones. The problem with drones is:
1. Create a ton of lag in larger fights (5 fold lag increase) 2. You easily lose them as you are often warping off to new spots and in/out of fight.
What I am thinking is only allow 1 drone per ship, but make that one drone 5x stronger so the DPS/Armor stays the same. Also increase the drone bay so a ship can hold more drones. This will make it a little bit more like ammo where a person would not mind losing a few and you cut down lag. The electronic warfare drones would need to be tweaked also.

Not signed, as squads of drones look cool ....allthough drone grouping like weapon grouping would help ze laggs, not to roll this offtopic
As well in small lv pvp taking out a ships drones can sometime mean the diffrence between life and death (vagabond pilot coff coff :P), good idea but expanding the drone bay would make them a lil OP unless massivly reduced other slots ect _________________________________ Looking for cool pilots, check our advert |

Another idea you gave me is group the 5 drones into one so it shows as one entity (less lag). A number of issues would need to be worked out, but I think it can work.

Yea thinking about it would need some thinking (they all share a pool of HP?) or individualy? ect, good idea though needs a bit of polish _________________________________ Looking for cool pilots, check our advert |

No. Drones die easily enough. So instead of multiple targets, you only have to lock one?

This would need to be addressed as I would want zero negative effects from this switch. Either give the one drone has 5x times more tank. or the idea of 5 drones grouped so it acts like one entity (reducing lag) and then you have to target and kill it 5 times. Or any other ideas people have.
ultimately looking at reducing lag of the 5 fold increase in objects moving in space and treating drones more like ammo so you can lose a few without worry. this will make people more likely to release a drone in battles where they know they will be warping in/out a few times.

Edited by: rofflesausage on 12/09/2010 15:53:38 The problem with simply multiplying the tank of the drone is that it doesn't take into account previous drone destruction.
For example, lets just assume that there are 5 drones on the field with 100HP each, and each of them is dealing 100DPS (Just trying to keep things simple) You target one / smartbomb / whatever and take 1 out. There are now 4 drones of the field with a damage output of 400DPS. The number of drones destroyed will directly change the amount of coming DPS from the controlling pilot.
You could change this so as the 1 big drone takes damage it deals out less DPS. The issue with this approach is that remote repping it with even the smallest of reppers would most likely take it back to a very strong source of DPS on the field.
No easy solution either way - some game mechanics would have to change somewhere.

Your solutions are crap.
Drones doesn't always work as 1 entity, they can have multiple targets. And then all your solutions fail.

Some tweaking definitely would need to be done based on the issues some have pointed out. And to group your 5 drones into one would mean they would all have to shoot the same thing. The same way grouping guns require you to shoot the same thing.
Again, the solution is not perfect, but if it resulted in a noticeable lag reduction and drone boats became more viable in larger fleet/gang battles then would it be worth the cost?

The trouble with drones is that they used a generic capacity-based drone bay system and left it alone. That concept of having limited drone space needed some love when they limited the number of fielded drones to 5 and things got a little worse when drone bandwidth came along.
More drone capacity and drone bandwidth would be considerable love for Gallente ships, and it's been suggested that perhaps such expansions for drone ships might come at a compromise of less slots.
Therein lies a potential answer, in modules. We already have drone modules that expand the speed (a mid slot) and range (a high slot) and number (also a high slot) but there is no low slot drone bay expansion that could seriously create some very good drone boats out of Gallente ships. Considering that Gallente are the "drone ships" it would be fitting that Gallente ships be the ones having a bonus for drone expansion bays in much that Caldari ships have ECM bonuses.
(though in that case and along those lines, the statement "Because of Vexor" will become a new meme).
Also considering what a joke Blasters are any help a Gallente ship could get would be good.

The Dev Blog on Lag says Drones are 10% of total lag in a fight.
Also, the numbers lie. EFT will screw you.
