Our corp is getting crushed by small griefer corps that are just picking off all of our mining ships.
We are in desperate need of people that can fight back so I want to start training skils towards being able to do that - but since I just started playing three weeks ago I have no idea what are good skills to pursue first.
Can anyone cover the basics for me? Thank you!

I cannot speak with the deep voice of experience but I would suggest as a defending tactic and a quick choice to train some EW skills and fit accordingly. Dampers and targeting disruptors might become very handy to get you out of pinch. Caldari have the best ships for this.
And if you don't have the resources to keep a guardian or two while mining, move to higher systems first.
Also, as a defense tactic you want to be warp aligned to insure fast getaway with gang warp and keeping an eye on the local is advised aswell. Not to mention bookmarks especially for hauler(s), which should be needless to mention anyway.
If you're afraid of your ore getting nicked, use a secured container or haul frequently.
Don't expect to be able to fight back with a three week training. Give your enemies no victory and eventually they will back off.

If so your corp can surrender.

Edited by: Robskiwarrior on 30/12/2004 11:26:40 dont go below 0.5 before your ready or you will be eaten alive. Its that simple... Train up your skills its good to get your learning skills up first, atleast to level 4... then go for small Enegy turrets and so on... also work on your electonics skills and engineering so you can fit more to your ship. Mecanical skills normally boost your hull and armor levels... there is too much to explain and far to much for you to train to handle pirates in 0.4 as they have the edge on you with experiance. Convo me in space if you want any advice.

Surrendering makes everything you have theirs. They are also not required to accept it. If they do, they can then declare war again after accepting.
Usually a bad idea.

I did some ingame checking and see your in Solar Wind corp. Your corp info directs me to the Solar Wind website. Aren't they part of the Stain Alliance? Isn't there any in your alliance that can protect you while mining in empire space?

if you're looking to fight in a frigate i recommend the tristan to a new player because it has a nice slot lay out, decent defence, drone space and a missile hardpoint.
the incursus is also a brilliant choice but relies on gunnery skills - it's also a nice fast ship.
however, it doesn't take long to use a kestrel if you wish to start training for caldari ships. missiles are very potent at the moment and can make short work of most frigates!
once you've got enough experience in a frigate and feel confident, move up to the thorax/vexor or blackbird. ----- ----- -----

This information helps a lot. Thanks to all that contributed.
As for higher space - all of this is happening in .9 space. Not fun.

Are you sure about this?? Carebear miners/builders can simply be driven out of the game by anybody with pvp experience.
That's a retarded game mechanic. Whats the point of having security levels if anybody can just declare you?

You could always set up a sister corp and move your members there on a temporary basis.

Your corp. can always hire a Merc. corp. Or, officially request the help of a larger corp. that may feel sympathetic..

Hire a merc corp to do what, look for a needle in a haystack?
Besides, if these guys are a small mining corp, who can they afford to hire? LOL
I like the sister corp idea. But I think it sucks that you have to exploit gameplay mechanics to get away from a really stupid gameplay mechanic like empire wars.
Empire is carebear country, hostilities belong in .4 and below which is like %90 of the map.
If ppl wanna sit in empire and mine veld, they should be able to.

Have all your non-combat members simply leave the corp. They can't be attacked legally as long as their not in a gang with people who are in the corp.
In fact, if you're a small corp mining in secure space, you really don't need to be in a corporation. Set up a private chat when your members are on, and use secure containers to allow your haulers to grab the ore from your miners.
You can also just go somewhere else. Move your operations to another region. Your opponents might just want to muscle you out of the local market.
Corporations open you up to non-consentual pvp. If you don't like that, then don't join one.
